@ErikTande - Thank you very much, it has been a lot of work, but Ive enjoyed working on a DSM again as well... much easier to deal with than my F-Body was!

@iugrad92turbo - Im starting to think so, I dont think I set up the Comm port (properly) and need to try it again to be certain. I am going to test a few more circuits and swap out a few fuses to be sure thats not the issue. Im also going to put some fuel in it (I think its bone dry) and try to fire up the fuel pump at the test connector to be sure it is working as well.

I appreciate all he comments, support, critism and answers you guys have given me. Please feel free to let me know if you see me doing something questionable, I havent worked on one of these this deeply and need the watchful eyes.

Update time: So I plugged in the lap top again, configured the Comm port correctly this time and I got it to "link" but I still get no response form the PCM. I still need to track down the power issue at the OBD port also.

I then moved on to cleaning up more of the engine bay, tightened the down pipe, made up a throttle cable (actually used the factory cable from the throttle to cruise box), added the gear oil to the trans, routed all the vac lines for the emissions crap and added coolant. I also installed a spring for the dipstick, not sure its needed, but figured it was cheap insurance.

Update:

So last night I put oil in the engine, put a couple gallons of gas in the tank, turned the batt switch on and cranked the engine over to check everything out... put the MPI fuse back in and still no fuel pump (no surprise), I then tested my f/p re-wire relay, had power and ground, but no power from the car. I powered up the relay and the pump ran fine, so Im guessing I either have a bad MPI Relay (doubtful IMHO) or bad ECU (my guess).

So I called up the PO (my buddy) and I guess I was wrong about the ECU... I guess he bought it off of someone because it was socketed already, so I have idea if its good or not. Anyone know if I can just swap the socket to my spare ECU? (Which is the factory ECU to this car) Im hoping I can just have the socket swapped over and be good to go?

***Edit: It seems after some research, I cannot use this ECU because it is Non-EProm... Sigh

Best update of all, I pulled the console apart again, messed around w/the ECU some... Plugged in the laptop again and got it link up. I made all the necessary changes in Link and it fired up first turn of the key!! So stoked!! Have one small oil leak to track down... Its running down from above the front water pump outlet, any ideas? I didn't have time to really look at it and it was all hot by then...

**Edit: So I looked at the oil leak more lastnight and it is leaking around the exhaust cam area... After looking at a spare head I have, I think it is either the cam seal (which would suck big time) or the little hole below the cam(s)... Can that hole leak oil? It looks like there is a just a dowel/roll pin in the other head I have... Please let me know what you think, I am dreading having to tear everything down again (in the car this time) just to replace the cam seal.

Update: I have heard that I can just use a timing tool to untension the t-belt, slide the cam gear forward and slip the seal in... Going to try that this weekend I guess...

Also, here is a short video of the start up and the car running.

Thanks so much, I appreciate it, I'm trying!

The car had its first bath in years today, it was so nice to be able to pull it out of the garage and wash it. Afterwards I drove it to the gas station for its first fill up and I remember why I love these cars so much!

Sweet car love the blue haven't decided on which color to paint mine, ive had blue cars, white cars, and red but im thinking about the blue again, props on the cleanliness of it

Thanks buddy, I appreciate it, I really like the blue. I have seen some very clean Pandas though.

I also need some help/advice, my water temp and oil pressure gauges arent working, I replaced the one wire sensor in the t-stat housing and no change on the water temp. I havent tired replacing the oil pressure sensor yet, but Im worried that maybe there is something wrong with the cluster? Any ideas on what I should check next? Just voltage/resistance in the wiring at the cluster?

Ya. I would check the voltage along the wire maybe theres a short somewhere if you go up the wire you can find it if theres no reading at the guage. And check the resistance at the guage. Your problem will be in there somewhere.

Not sure what ohms it should read but if there no resistance of course thats no bueno.

iugrad92turbo: I hear ya, it was way easier since the car didnt have an engine/trans in it when I bought it.

bjjnerd85: Thanks for the info, Im just concerned because I noticed today it doesnt move at all, it is buried on cold. If I pull the wire off the sender and ground it the gauge should move one way or the other correct? Can you replace just one gauge in the cluster?

Edit:

I drove the car to work today (only a few miles) to see how she does, doing great so far! Here are some pics out in the sun finally!

Ok thanks, hopefully its something in the wiring then, guess Ill find out.

Update:

So on my home lastnight the car starting running like crap, I roll down my window to see if I could hear/smell anything abnormal and there was a huge exhaust leak, I was pissed. I baby the car home and the two nuts on the O2 housing where loose, one was on the last few threads, I guess the nuts werent doing much locking anymore.... So I picked up two new lock nuts and a new gasket today, will switch out tonight. I also had some oil leaking out of the CAS, so I picked up a new O-ring and hope that stops the issue. Im going to put it all back together tonight, clean up the mess and change the oil... Put the first 50 miles on it yesterday and hoping this will be the last of the issues for awhile.

Next up is doing some initial tuning and then try to get the water temp and oil pressure gauges fixed. Then Ill get a Wideband and get some real tuning done on this thing.

Ok, I installed the CAS w/the new o-ring and a little RTV, new exhaust gasket and lock nuts and changed the oil/filter. I noticed that my rear water line to the turbo is leaking a little at the main water pipe, can I get a crows foot or something up there to snug the line w/o taking a bunch of stuff off to get to it? Hoping that is the last of the leaks for awhile, Id like to just drive and tune this thing finally.

Your car makes me miss my '92 electric blue talon like you wouldn't believe! There is no better looking DSM (imho) than a 1Gb electric blue talon. I have nothing of real value to say in this post, just electric blue 1Gb talons make me turn my head and stare. I'm not too far away, maybe I'll see you driving by one day.

Sorry to threadjack, carry on.

Faded95,

Thanks man, I have to agree, always loved this color combo and glad I finally have one... I mostly stay around the Brighton area, but Im up north here and there.

I have about 150 miles on the car now, I havent driven it much, been busy with other stuff. I retorqued the head studs, resealed the v/c and cleaned up some other stuff yesterday. I also changed a few more settings in Link, so we'll if it runs a little better. I had the injector dead time a little fat and the fuel pressure was a bit too high, so hopefully its a little leaner now. I still need to pick up a wideband before I tune anything safely though.

I also picked up a real 16G to use after the break in is over and I get a short route FMIC kit.

Real nice i had a similar look to that bay, a few years ago, looking good. I had just about the same mods as you did.

@ErikTande,

Thank you man, I think it came out well.

@iugrad92turbo,

Thanks buddy, I like it so far, I cant wait for more mods.

Yes im forever modding something but almost done for the year, gonna get that paint gun you have still shopping for one.

That is very true, its a continuous process, paint gun? I have done everything w/rattle can so far... I wish I could paint for real.

Update:

I have about 300 miles on the car, no major issues, one small oil leak to track down still and tuning issues to iron out... Still need a wideband to get any real tuning though.
