'93 TSi problems

I have a '93 TSi that I just bought a few weeks ago. I put an aftermarket boost gauge on and there is no vaccum at all. It shows boost but goes to 0 and no lower. As soon as I hit about 15 psi it starts to cut out like it is just running out of fuel. If you accelerate at anything less than WOT it will go to redline, but not smoothly. I am guessing it is just boosting too high and the stock fuel system is pumping enough to compensate for all the air. Is there any way to turn down the boost short of getting a manual boost controller?

Also, when I first start the car and dont drive it, it idles fine, but if I drive it at all the revs will go from a little over 1k to a little under 1500 and back over and over. It blows a lot of black smoke. There are 4 openings on top of the throttle body that are all capped off. I'm pretty sure they are for vaccum lines. Could that be one of my problems?

Please complete your profile. I would first give it a complete tune up, especially the plugs and wires, before I start beating on it. Make sure it's not vented and the mas is not hacked, then do a boost leak test. Good luck.

seems to me like it pumping to much fuel, hense the all black smoke, aka unburnt fuel. but that could also maybe be a bad 02 sensor. also if your boost gauge is only reading boost u are tapped into a wrong spot or the gauge is not hooked up properly. but definatly do a tune up and a boost leak test.

what the crap are u trying to say here anyway, what i got out of it is, that u think 3 ports of the trottle body are capped off and one is left on for the boost gauge tap. well that is not the case because he said all 4 are capped off, not 3. the only other place to get a accurate reading for the boost gauge is the FPS.

The boost gauge is tapped into the port with an E. The other 3 open ones are A1, A2, and E. Now that I moved it to port E, it is showing vacuum and boost, so that problem is solved.

Sometimes my clutch loses pressure, i.e. it'll go about 3/4 of the way to the floor before it starts to disengage. I was told it could be the TPS. Is that true?

Side note, I got my turbo timer installed correctly with no help, which caught me by surprise!

Is there any way to check and see if I have a bad 02 sensor?

i think u might be able to see the resistance of the O2 senor and if it falls under specs in a helms manual then ur fine...datalogger i believe can determine if ones bad or going bad
