I have a 1990 GST that has 91-94 cables and base. I just rebuilt a 93 FWD trans and I am going to install it. The axles obviously need to be changed. I also have a 94 AWD. I was thinking possibly either putting in those axles from the 94 into it or putting the cups on the axles I currently have. Does anyone know if I can do either one? Otherwise I have to try and find the correct axles because the parts stores are trying to tell me they are all the same which I know isnt right, the differential is different spline size.

Thanks in advance..

Blaine

Guess I can attempt it and see what happens.

Yeah... I'd like to know the deal here. 1G AWD axles seem to actually be preferred over the FWD axles, even for FWD applications. They're stronger, and from what I remember, equal length. So it decreases torque steer. And should be a direct fit, no BS. I know the parts store I bought my replacement axle from only asked if it was a base model or TSi (no idea why that would matter either, unless they meant the 1.8), with no mention of AWD. I made sure to let them know, just in case. It came in, and was exactly the same in just about every regard as the old one. Minus the torn boot and worn bearings. I also miss the Mitsu-green.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you didn't smack the passenger side axle hard enough to get the little clip on the end to lock inside the transmission and just said screw the driver side. Because they have the same spline count. The difference between 90s and the rest is in the output shaft/transfer case spline count (22 vs. 23). This doesn't apply to you, as your car is not AWD.
