hey guys im new in the world of dsm i have just a plain jane eclipse and im having some problems like finding the pig tails for the alternator and map sensor as well as finding the de fogger turn off relay any ideas that could help me out would be awesome

i was also wondering if anyone knows were i could find colored light bulbs for my gauges or if they sell different gauge set ups

I used to have a 4g37. 1st off, the g62b head will NOT bolt up. the letter after the g, which in your case is 3, dictates block design. thats why you can bolt a 4g63 head to a 4g64 block- because they are both 4g6 motors. you can bolt a g32b head to it, but the ports are even smaller. 2nd, the noise you heard was most likely your balance shafts trying to sieze up. the balance shaft removal is cake with the motor out of the car, and its the exact same procedure as doing one on a 4g63, you can even use the same kit, you just need a different size freeze plug if i remember correctly. 3rd, you cant hurt these motors by timing them wrong, it'll just run like poop or not at all.

as far as mods for power go, here's what i did to get some extra ponies- balance shaft delete, port match the intake and exhaust manifolds since they are both WAY off, port the exhaust side of the head because it flows like crap, get a throttle body off of a 3000gt motor (you will have to port the hell out of the intake manifold, but its easily the best mod i ever did, besides rebuilding the motor entirely) 2.25 inch exhaust with test pipe, hard intake pipe to stock air can, then hack the aircan to increase flow, and you can take an adjustable cam gear for a 4g63 and get it milled narrower to fit in between the motor and motor mount. The cam gear isn't really for the adjustability, more for the reduced weight. The more weight you can take off of the engines rotating parts, the better.

You can also go to Schneider Racing Cams - Hydraulic Follower Camshafts to get your camshaft reground.

i never put it on the dyno, but ill put it this way. Before i did everything, getting on the interstate was a pain in the ass, if i was in 5th and dropped a gear to pass at 65 it took 5 or 6 seconds to get to a higher speed than the car in front of me. After everything was done, the car revved alot quicker, i could get up to 60 in about 8 seconds (which is a huge improvement from the stock 12-14 seconds acceleration times) if i dropped a gear it took less than 2 seconds to get to passing speed from 65, the motor had a nice growl at wot, and my gas mileage actually improved because i didn't have to go to wot 24/7 to get speed. I also had about 25-30psi oil pressure at idle.

The stock intake pipe for 1 can split very easily, and 2 isn't smooth inside. The fact that a hard intake pipe is smooth on the inside allows air to flow with greater velocity and volume. I also swapped out the stock maf for a 2g maf, but you need a fuel tuner like an apexi safc to do that tho. </title><link href="/skins/mb/black_glass_look/black_glass_look.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"><style> </style> <title>dsm1eights has a TON of mod write ups, and there's even a few guys who have turbo'd their 1.8's. It isnt easy tho.

All in all i would say i gained maybe 40hp, but that it going off of the fact that i could keep up with and sometimes beat a 2.0 n/t dsm.

its possible... just a pain in the ass. honestly tho i pulled my motor and trans twice with a 2 ton capacity come-along attached to a thick tree limb. not the safest or easiest way, but it will definitely be easier to do the bs delete with the motor out of the car simply because you have to pull the front case off to do it, and it has to come straight out.

oh and i don['t know why it didn't show up in the last post, but i would say i gained 35-40hp because of the fact that i could pull on stock 2.0 n/t dsm's. These motors are choked and nailed down to the ground from the factory.

Yes jack the motor up and remove the drivers side motor mount. Do this by putting a jack under the oil pan with a piece of wood or thick cardboard in between to take up most of the oil pan. But its a WHOLE lot easier to get to with the motor out haha I promise you that

well thank allot guys im going to go pull the oil pan to see what my noise is im hoping its the bs though im not sure yet will i have clearance to pull the front case with the motor in the car or is it possible for my to jack up the car and drop the motor a few inches to gain access to everything?

ok guys so this is were is gets weird i said that it sounded like i had something bouncing around in my motor well i took off my oil pan and their was nothing out of the ordanery going on so took off my valve cover thinking if i was gonna find something then that's were it would be and again nothing so i don't know were to look for my noise or what it could be guessing it's gotta be the balance shaft but not to sure

how do i purge the oil pump or does this engine do it by itself

can anyone tell me if the ford probe 2liter is the same as the 4g63
