ok, so i found a 93 laser 1.8 5spd with a blown engine for dirt cheap..... i have a 91 gsx with a couple mods, but its needs rebuilt...thats not to bad but its automatic.. thats the bad..so if im going to take it out and rebuild it neways, then y dont i go ahead and get the 5spd laser and put my turbo motor in it... <--thats the plan...now....how the hell do i do it LOL, jkjk, but i do have a couple questions...... will the mounts line up and the tranny bolt right up to it?? and what kind of wiring issues are we talkin??? and ecu? and would i also need to put my gsx fuel pump in it??

my buddy and i are currently doing this swap. its fairly straight forward swap everything. the mounts we found are diff youll need ones off the 2.0. the only real problem we have had so far is the motor sits forward 1" on ours. was no prob we drilled the rear mount with a new hole then everything lined up fine. trans will bolt up but it wont last long pretty weak. hope this helps.

we are only doing this with spare parts by the way. in no way would we of done this just to swap from 1.8 were trying to spend under 700 for everything so far we have rebuilt motor with evo 8 pistons junk yard head we went through were only at 400 so far.

ok, so the tranny part... do i need a tranny out of a gst or would a 1g 4g63 n/t worK?
.........and what about the wiring?

yeah use those links provided we are using the 1 8 trans it bolts up but it wont last. as far as wiring we went to a u pull it and snagged a complete harness. using a spare ecu (turbo of course) were not looking for longevity out of this project more of a skill excercise and a way of clearing extra parts. cheap fun something to wrench on when were bored as our other dsms requir money we do not have

ok, so me already having a 1991 gsx in running and driving condition (barley, it needs rebuilt) and a 1993 laser 1.8 5spd with a rod knocking... do i have all the parts to do it at home with out spending a crap load of money??? because the 4g63t is coming out of a automatic, and going into a 5spd.... so is there any diff. to the engine were it bolts up to the tranny?? and could i use a automatic AWD ecu?.. thanks

^im not just asking you LOL, really anyone who knows...... :hellyeah:

honestly i would repair the awd before attemping this swap or even over it maybe doing a 5 speed swap (far easier) ecu will work, trans we have not bolted up we are hoping it will work we have read it will we did some measuring and unless our tapes are lying(very real possibilityLOL) it should work then we will use 1 8 axles that were on the car. im not telling you trans will work as i have no real proof just that we are attempting to use it. fix the awd

Dude, keep the Auto GSX, rebuild the transmission so it can take some HP and let her buck!

If i have any more transmission issues with my galant, I am going to make it automatic! Seriously, having driven 5-speeds my whole life, an auto would be sweet.

You can have a MASSIVE turbo, keep the gas mashed, you will not lose spool between gas.

Never mind, give me your GSX shell! ill take it!

BTW:
ALL turbo transmissions, built to a stronger spec
AWD Galant GSX's and AWD Expos (Non turbo AWD, bet you guys didnt know that!!!!) These are also built to a higher torque rating.

FWD NT transmissions are completely worthless

the rear motor mount between awd and fwd are different... so if the 1.8 sits differently the awd mount wont work.

LOL... just because its automatic isnt the only reason i was thinking of the swap.....1 i have to take out the engine to reduild it neways. 2 my tranny is stuck in limp mode, so i bought a roadsurge shift box, and it shifts HARD!!!! 3 im only 16 and have only had my license since december 08, and my GSX is on the "rejection list" for a 16 year ole (basicly, its way to fast..... :shhh: i was pushin 24psi :shhh: LOL, and im pretty sure thats how i messed it up) so my insurance is like OUTRAGOUS! like over 200 a month for just me LOL... so a laser that came factory witha 1.8 would be a lot cheaper.. and 3. i dont like the flip up lights on my 91 :(

Hmm. I love my 91 and its flip ups haha..

Trust me I would keep the AWD..

LOL, i LOVE the awd part about it, the headlights are ok i guess, but when i bougt the car the hookups for the fog lights and the headlights were switched around, so i thought they were broken, so i just gave her a sleepy look :) and i liked that, but i just fixed em 3 days ago, and now if i unhook them they just fall down LOL

Ok, you may be 16, your insurance is gonna be hella expensive either way.

Buy a civic for your DD, take your DSM off your insurance because you are going to need time to rebuild everything/build everything right.

AWD GSX FTW, manual or automatic, with the right stall converter, you can launch just as hard as any manual.

One more thing, what do you need to rebuild on your GSX? feel free to refresh the motor, but don't do a whole build on it, the 6-bolt is the GOD of 4 cylinders, my DSM is faster then shit and it has a high mileage 6bolt with bad compression.

do yourself a favor, save a thousand bucks or so and just do an engine refresh, all gaskets, ect, do not do any metal work unless you have a specific and educated reason to do so.

I only have a decade of experience with these cars, w/e

I bought a fel-pro gasket set through either rockauto.com or advance auto parts. I can't remember which gaskets I ordered from where, because one was cheaper than the other. They are all holding up fine. I didn't use the fel-pro headgasket because the one on there has been sealing just fine, but some people have had luck with it. If you pull the motor and the head, you might as well get it machined and run a MLS headgasket.

My Tsi AWD is an automatic. For a while I debated on swapping it, mostly for gas mileage reasons, but I decided on keeping it and I plan to just get a shift kit and rebuild it this summer.

My car is a 97 and my insurance was no where near that high when I got my car (at 17). Have you taken driving classes? Do you have good grades? Both of those combined got me almost 25% off. Plus, I was put on my family's insurance plan that covers both my parent's cars, our house, and life insurance, so I got a discount that way too. $200 a month is outrageous. I think I'm paying about $105 a month, with 1 accident (hit a car in a parking lot and dinged the door pretty good) and 1 ticket (84mph in a 65mph :ohdamn:)
