92 Talon TSI Rev limiter build

Alright what I am doing besides my AWD swap is I am going to build a rev limiter that hits at 3000rpms that can be turned off, why you ask am I doing this? the reason is because if someone is to steal the car as there has been a few eclipse and talon thefts in the area is the car is stolen it can not be blown up, thus at least saving the engine, want to see if anyone wants to see my idea and if you think If it is worth it

to a sense yes what I am doing is anything over 3k will cause a misfire, and keep it from building any boost, I can make it start misfire at 1500 and above, wont know what rpm its going to start spooling so as soon as I get the car up and going I will know, that will be a few months but what it is the talon I have has some factory switches that are not being used, for instance the fog light switch, im hooking a 12v power to the switch activated from the pcm, rerouting the power to the ignition (coils) to the switch, then going to a balist resistor then from the resistor to the coils when the switch is on, when it is off it will bypass the resistor and put full voltage to the coils

We have the technology.You can add antilag, or 2 step with a custom eprom or dsmlink.

Thats the opposite of what he wants to do. He's trying to limit the revs to keep the car from building boost at all when the switch is activated. If anyone steals the car, they wont be taking it for much of a joyride.

Joe, you are completely correct, I am trying to keep it from building any boost, anyone that does not know the car will think it will be a joy ride. They will be wrong, thus making them most likely ditching the car as it will not be fun at all. At least this is what I am hoping.

Not really overkill, I have put many years of planning and making blueprints for this car, as my dad from 90-93 was one of the engineers for Chrysler, and helped Mitsubishi with a few of the wiring problems, and with his prior knowledge and what I am hoping to do this car will be quick very quick.

I agree with bud here. While I understood what you were trying to do, why let them drive it in the first place. Wire a a kill switch to your fuel pump. They won't get anywhere without finding that first. Most likely they'll just think its another POS Dsm that doesn't start and move along .

Well a kill switch is a good idea but what I am trying to do is make it able to drive for instance if my wife wants to drive it she can, she just can not get on it... maybe I am just thinking yes you can drive It, no you can not race it.

You could possibly hack a shift light to where instead of the bulb lighting up it would cut signals going to/from ECU and making the car misfire or shutting the engine down completly for few seconds till RPM drop below limit.

I have done this before on another car I owned and it worked extremely well, for an everyday driver it worked, with the flip of a switch it turned into a different car, I did this on my 1994 s10 with the lt4 out of a vet, it was running twin garret t56 turbo and the factory vet 6 speed, anything over 2500 the truck would go into misfire, with the flip of a switch it would run out to 6k and if I could find the dyno papers or the you tube video of when I ran I at UTI Orlando it was around 800hp with 750ft/lbs of torque so If all goes well it should work on the talon, the only thing I am doing is making it not have any power should the switch activated.

A valet mode is fine but I wouldn't drive the car with a limited RPM limit. It's not safe. If you needed the car to respond even a little bit it wouldn't. The old TMO mods were for a valet that would be driving around in a parking lot but I wouldn't let my wife or anybody for that matter drive it like that on the street. I've seen ignition timers that let a thief take a car but it kills the car within 10 seconds. Honestly I see no reason to do this with only one exception. If a car is stolen is grand theft auto which is a higher crime than just a break in. Car jacking is also auto theft but if the car is rendered inoperagble 10 seconds later a thief will abondon it. You are guaranteed to get the car back and if you catch the thief he is guilty of grand theft. Jacobs electronics did this years ago and put a foot swtich in the car in case you get car jacked. Honestly I'm not worried about it. Who would steal a DSM? To each his own.

Shift light- how to if you want to look into how to make one. Basically all it does is change frequancy (from TCU/coil) to voltage. As engine speeds up, frequancy goes up, and voltage goes up. From then a simple relay/transistor setup is needed that will trigger at certain voltage, disabling the ignition. Could go farther and tie the system to the key where the "rpm cut" is on constantly, has to be manually deactivated every time, and turns back on if the key is turned off and back on. Or go even further and tie the system into the seatbelts so that if driver is not buckled in the car doesn't have full power.

91: thanks for the info, think that might be the way to go, and Pauley in this are there is at least 10 dsms stolen a month, one of my friends bought an evo had it 3 days and it was stolen, then bought a built 1 g and again stolen, since then he went to a Subaru and so far he has not had it stolen... so far, so this may not make sense to some but it just something to play around with, we will see which way I go.. thanks again for all the input.

Um, ecmlink already has this feature. And whats so different from instslling a kill switch and telling your wife where it is so she can drive it when she wants. What you want to do makes no sense at all. With the kill switch they won't even be able to drive the car. Id rather they not drive the car then joy ride it around snd crash the car even with a rev limiter. They can still get in the highway becausr it doesnt limit speed.

Hell, heres a free way to do it. Unplug the cas and make it look like is still on there. The car will crank but not start, hence letting the robbers know its just another pos dsm that doesn't run.
