So i've all ways liked the 1G dsm's and went and picked up a 92 GS. I really wanted to get a turboed dsm:banghead: but at the time i didnt have to much money and got the gs wanting to convert it to a gs-t. so i've been looking up a lot about what i should do and knowing that all of you know a lot about about these cars. im wanting to find out what road to go down when it comes to doing the conversion. so with my understanding the first things i should do is get some turboed pistons,ECU and knock sensor along with a biger fuel pump. i have the car in my garage and am planing to work on it and have it all done and boosting(safely) by the end of winter. and im wanting to run an evo III 16g turbo so knowing that what do you think i should do???WTF

(im going on a trip to cali and won't be able to see what you have to say. so if you have any advice for me just let me know what you would do and ill get back to you monday)

I would find a turbo block then get all the part for the swap, vfaq.com should tell you if not do a searh and youll fiind everything you need for the swap, it can be done depends on you. or just find a turbo car cheaper and easier.

Step 1 would be to get a turbo Block.
Step 2 would be to do a bottom end rebuild on said block. New bearings, gaskets, ARP Hardware if your planning on going with higher boost levels. Piston rings. Oil pump, balance shaft elimination.
Strep 3 would involve putting the engine together and dropping it in.
Step 4 would be intercooler solution. You can either try and find a complete piping setup and smic on a junkyard, or go straight to a front mount.
Step 5. ECU Try and find a EEPROM on a junkyard or in the classiefieds.
Steo 6. Walbro 190 LPH fuel pump, or evo 8 fuel pump.

To the OP:

I've converted many 1g's (4g63 non turbo and 1.8L motors) and it's really simple. People PM me all the time about doing the conversion. You can look at the vfaq, but I can tell you much more info, and in better detail then them. Hit me up via PM after you read through the vfaq part of converting a non turbo to turbo. It's easy then you think, I promise!

Sorry for the thread, would this conversion work on a 90 laser auto. I found one, just needs a computer guy letting it go for dirt cheap. I'm concern though I've read the 90 DSMs are a basturd models.

ok im glad i found this fourm i got a 91 dsm 2.0 dohc 4g63 n/a and here is a list of what i got please help on ideas greatly appreated:

Cool, I'm reading up on it, here and vfaq
I'll pm you e85_4g63 about it and questions.

p.s im about to buy a safc 2 any thoughts on that to

Ive done it thats a good start just get what you want, then go from there, safc never used one or will my gm maft setup, logger, and wideband are sufficient until i get dsmlink this winter.

yea i thinking about getting dsm likn 2 but just for the time being i was going to rock with a safc2 i read all the info on it and it has alot more opptions for it

Guys keep in mind that doing the turbo conversion itself is not difficult at all, but it is TIME CONSUMING to do... Price wise, it can easily be done for under $1,000 total, you just have to look for deals. Also, don't forget our freelancer section when looking through the classifieds. Those members take more pride in there work then some random, money hungry parts slinging shops.... Feel free to PM me anytime about anything. I know pretty much every bolt size on a 1g, and the engine bay wiring harness and ecu pin outs are pretty much second nature to me.. wow that is horrible ROFL

Many states (smog laws) do not allow this type of engine conversion under any circumstances, check first.

after looking around and finding out what i should do ive read having a turboed block is not a big deal when it comes to the conversion. and that the only difference between the two blocks was that the turboed block has oil squirters and by not having them my oil pressure will just be a little higher and thats not really a bad thing but im still new to this car and am not sure how everything works (yet) thats just what ive read? well any way ive been doing a lot of searching about all this and it seems simple enough to convert it. and my new plan is to just run the car as is n/t and just wait till i buy every part that im planing to use for my set up so every thing is new and installed at the same time and just slowly build it from that platform. and what im planing on doing to the car so far with the info that i have is New head gasket(along with all other ones), arp hardware, new 16g turbo, bc cams with new cam gears, 550cc injectors for now, AEM afpr, Walbro 255 fuel pump, new water pump, new timing belt, new aftermarket fans, Greddy turbo timer, balance shaft elimination kit, stock 1G bov, new tubular header, 2g MAS to 1g conversion intake pipe with a 3" exhaust to keep the back pressure down, and ive already have a new clutch, and have stock 1g smic with all piping but am planing on just geting a fmic if i still have the money by the time i get everything else :pray:and im going to have everything apart and going to clean everything out. and like i said i have the car in my garage so that its safe for winter but im planing on geting everything done by summer that should be a good amount of time for me to buy all the parts and work on it and im still not sure what to do about my ecu can i just snag one from a gs-t?? :hmm:
and i already have new pistons and rings
and thanks for the advice:thumb:

Where do you plan on putting the knock sensor?

e85 do you have a pinout for the non-turbo harness??

Buddy of mine is doing a nt->t conversion....

Hes got the injector resistor pack in etc...he needs to do the maf wire which will go to pin 6 but the weird thing is there is a wire in there already....there shouldnt be I think...

Also he does NOT have a knock sensor on his car yet but pin 9 is taken which should be the knock sensor wire....

Please help out
EDIT: Ive looked and looked people say wires here or there etc...all links I find are dead and theres just no info...
