92-3 Galant ECU into 1G DSM ?

I tried to post this in the tuning forum but being a newb it wont let me.

I just bought a MD172575 E2T37380 EPROM off of Ebay. Searching tells me this is from a 92-93 Galant FWD manual turbo.

I want to chip it and run it in my 1990, but I went to test it today in a buddy's 91 Laser FWD manual turbo and the car would not start with the ECU as the only change.

I can't find much info on this ECU model number. I'm clutching at straws, hoping somebody might know of some other change that needs doing to make it work for this particular ECU.

The guy I bought it from swears it was recently running in his 91 DSM but i'm not yet sure if he's the one who put it in that car.

There is no such thing as a fwd turbo Galant. Where did you get that information?

After searching I found it's from a fwd 1990-1991 Galant non-turbo. You woudn't want to run this ecu on a turbo car.

I got that notion from here, among others. Upon looking at it, I guess it doesn't say turbo...but the ECU has a knock board, doesn't that mean it is turbo compatible? It looks exactly like a Turbo DSM ECU with EPROM. WTF

Post a picture of the board. It might just be a turbo ecu inside of a difference case.

I've seen the Board, it has a knock board, and it's Eprom....and it's been tested in both year of car.

Here something I remembered though, that we havent checked. There's those 2 resistors that are present on some ecu boards and not other, I can't remember what they configured, was it federal and non or seomthing. I'm going to look into that right now.

Ok, so the resistors are just do deligate FWD, AWD / Federal and California Emissions....which shouldn't cause it not to run.....

did you ever get this figured out? i think it's because pin's 6 and 14 at the ecu were swapped after 1990. so your 1990 harness is different from a 91+. you'd have to swap pins 6 and 14 for it to work.

That would be true if the ECU was for a 90., To use a 90 ECU in a 91-94 car you just swap the two pins, the reverse isn't as easy. The thing is this ECU is supposedly for a 1gb, and we treid it in both a 90 and a 91-94.

The problem hasn't been resolvred, however, were taking to my ecu guy to clean it up and have a look at things.

it's not as easy to swap the other way? why is that? wouldn't swapping the pins take care of it?

if the ecu doesn't work in either car, i'd say you definitely have an ecu problem then...

Yeh, that's how its done for a 91-94 in a 90....Unlessssss, your burning a custom chip for it like I am, we just wanted to make sure it was a functioning ECU before we socketed and capped it.

And it's a good thing we did, because it doesn't work, so at least we can sort that out first.

so if i'm converting a 1990 galant gsx into a turbo car, i'd have to do this as well in order to use my 91 gvr4 ecu? only other option is to use a 1990 ecu?
