First off let me introduce myself. My name is Chris I live in Fort Lauderdale and I'm new to DSM tuning. I once had a 95 civic with a b-16 turbo but it was unfortunately stolen (typical right?). Now after 6 months I have been convinced by a friend (also a member of dsm tuners) to go DSM. There was a catch though, insurance only gave me 3500 bucks, and so I've been looking and looking for a turbo eclipse for under that price. Unfortunately the cheapest 2g turbo I could find was $4500. So obviously a 1g was the way to go. Anyways about a week ago I got a call from a friend that knew someone that knew someone who had a 91 GST for sale for $900 but it didn’t run. Needless to say the body was in fair shape and the motor didn’t seem blown so I picked it up. I got it home and low and behold the only things preventing it from starting were bad plugs and wires. It still runs a bit ruff for my liking but the transmission is in great shape and the turbo sounds great so I’m really not too worried. The car is however having a bit of an idling problem though, and the throttle response is pretty bad until boost kicks in around 3000 rpm. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

This weekend I plan on doing some preventive maintenance and replacing all the vacuum lines (hopefully this will solve idling problem) otherwise I think its going be the idle control sensor or ignition coil. If anyone else has any ideas what the problem could be advice would be appreciated. Here are some pictures:

Also I’m not really to knowledgeable about DSM tuning so any simple inexpensive upgrade advice would also be appreciated.

Check for vaccuum/boost leaks everywhere. Listen for any type of hissing sound. This will definitely cause a bad idle. Try adjusting the BISS screw to lower or increase your idle. Make sure your ISC idle motor is plugged in (might be bad and the previous owner may have left it uplugged, its located right under the throttle body). Make sure your coil pack and and ppower transistor aren't fried, test them with a digital multimeter. If you don't know anything about DSMs, I HIGHLY suggest going to http://www.vfaq.com, they have howtos (with pictures) on just about everything. Ahhhh yes the 91 GST, good choice =) Too bad u couldnt find a cheap AWD though

the intake on a 1st gen looks weird LOL. and the BOV is mounted upsidedown on the 1st gen too. crazy stuff

i would check around for leaks yeah.. do a good check over of the car and do general stuff to it to get it back in good condition. oil change and all that stuff. Then see if the problem still is there and we can try to pinpoint it.
