engine swap from 91 GST to 90 GSX

I've recently acquired a 1990 GSX which I got for dirt cheap. Its bone stock and has a TON of miles on it (200k) and I've already done quite of bit of work on my 6 bolt GST motor which has less than 100k miles on it (removed balance shafts, arps, new head gasket, timing belt, oil pump, oil pan, etc. etc. etc.). So I was wondering if I could just swap out my GST motor and stick it in the GSX, and then take the old battered GSX motor out and swap it into my GST so that I can still have two running cars? I am just not sure if I would encounter any problems or not. I would start by just removing both engines (with transmissions attached) and then unbolt the transmissions from each and attach the AWD transmission to my low mileage GST motor. I would then attach the FWD transfer case to the high mileage 90 GSX motor. After doing this I am going to hoist my low mileage GST motor (with AWD tranny attached) into the 90 GSX, and then hoist the high mileage GSX motor (with FWD tranny attached) into my 91 GST. Sound silly? Both transmissions are manual (5 speed). AWD here I come!!! Muhahah.

FWDs dont have transfer cases.

I believe you meant transmission though.

Good luck man, i've driven and owned both gst and gsx. Love the gsts for overall driving, but wouldn't trade my AWD for anything =D.

Yeah sorry about that, I meant to say transmission. Looks like I got alot of work to do...arghh...I'm also going to chuck my flywheel (and get an ACT) and probably stick a stronger clutch on the AWD tranny before bolting it all together...might be a good idea while the tranny + engine is out. Thanks for the input! I sure love my GST but its time to get some kung fu grip =)

Youll have problems with the wiring harness. The wiring differs from 90-91. Not that big of a deal really, youll just have to switch the cam sensor, throttlebody, etc

Yeah I'm going to just swap all the sensors from one car to the other. Hopefully this will be the only think I'll have to worry about....this is my first time doing a complete engine swap out of a 1G DSM, not sure where to even hook up the chains to the engine hoist....argh. Wish me luck, its time to start tearing stuff apart =)

im just going to strip my GST's six bolt of all electrical components (so I'm swapping in JUST the block and head) and I'm going to hook up all the sensors from the 1990 GSX to the engine. Sounds pretty idiot proof, can anyone see any problems with doing this?
