Hello, my name is Alan I'm new to the forums. Well I am about to buy a 91 gst shell. My question, is it hard finding a motor and tranns for this year and model? Also is there a wide range of upgrades to choose from for this year and model? I've had a hard time finding parts.
Any help is appreciated.

Welcome Alan. There are a few options for you to choose from as far as the engine goes. Your car came stock with a six bolt 4G63. These are becoming a little harder to find for a decent price. You may also opt for the seven bolt 4G63 that came in the 92.5-94. The 95-99 cars also came with a seven bolt configuration that can be used with slight modifications in your car. The six bolt configuration is known to be more robust and tolerant to abuse. The seven bolt configuration is the same motor with different internals. You can also find JDM 4g63's from many vendors around the INTERNET. You can not use the 4g63's that came in lancer evolutions without heavy modifications with the exception of the I-III models. You can also choose the 4g out of a galant vr4 89-92. The vr4 engines as well as the lancer evolution models will be a six bolt configuration. The same thing goes for the transmissions with a few exceptions. I would tell you that you can use the fwd transmission from a 95-99 but I am not positive on that I have never looked into it. As far as aftermarket part's :hellyeah: :hellyeah: :hellyeah: :hellyeah: :hellyeah: they love us and make ANY THING your heart desires from a bone stock rocker to a 1000 hp shocker. To boot the parts are very easy to find and relatively inexpensive. You will find this site an irreplaceable tool for building your wisdom and experience of building and modifying these wonderful cars. We welcome you and look forward to helping you out.

'91 is the best year to have, IMHO. Stick with a 6bolt - you shouldn't have a problem at at all finding the engine or tranny. Look on car-part.com for both. You'll need axles too I'm assuming - get those from the donor car. I'd make sure the previous owner didn't take anything else you might need, such as the ECU. Make sure you get your donor motor as complete as possible - ask them not to cut any of the harness or mounts. After you get everything, you can have it all back together in less than a day if you have the right tools.

Holy crap, THANK YOU for the help everyone:thumb: your replies give me confidence with this ride. I do have another question. The shell I'm going to get is 500 bux. Although it's very clean inside and out. And the car is coming with some wheels. Is this a resonable price to pay?
Thanks in adavace.

I agree 500 bones is a fair price if its pretty clean. You could have done far worse thats for sure. good luck with your build man i think you are going to have a lot of fun working on it. Well at least until there is a gaping cut where your knuckle joint used to be ;).
