91+ coil pack in a 90 gst

ok so i have done some searching and came up with nothing clear at least

my friend has a 90 gst and its throwing a code for the coil pack.
i have a working coil pack with the 3 wire plug and a 90 uses the 4 wire plug

my question is, is it possible to swap coil packs by rewireing the plugs? i know it may result in the tach not working, but the tach already doesnt work so its not an issue.

Why not just unbolt the coilpacks and transfer over the wires?

The coils themselves should be removable...

i was looking at maybe doing that but the 90 coil pack has extra parts on it that a 91+ doesnt i dont know what they are but they are somewhat different. what im really trying to get at is what is the extra wire on the 90 for, is it just a ground?

Not sure about that wire (hopefully someone chimes in)

But im pretty sure iv'e swapped over coils from the brackets before without any problems... hell ive even used 3000gt VR4 coils in my DSM

the plugs are different, one is square and one is triangular. the bracket is not my problem... if you have swapped a square plug to a triangular plug please elaborate on how you did it.

from 91+ they all have a triangular 3 wire plug before that they were square 4 wire plugs

Youve got the wrong idea.... i m saying i removed the individual coils from the 90 bracket...

Transfered them to the 91 bracket... the wires unbolt from the rear of the coild by (2) wires a coil

Thats what i did on my 93,just swap the coils and you're done,why buss your head about the other wire??

The extra parts on that 90 coil pack is for the tach.
you can just cut the plug off the 90 and match the colours from the 91 plug. The extra wire on the coil side that doesnt match, dont hook up.

The transistor pack in the 91+ does the tach conversion.

ok so we did that and its still throwing a code for both the coil and a code tacho box also.. any other suggestions?

You can wire other coils into a 1990. I used a 95 coil. Just be sure to wire exactly how the 90 was. The tach will work as well. You will have to get creative on mounting the tach box and the transistor but it will work.
