Hi all, Im in the middle of a clutch and flywheel swap and had a question about putting the tranny back up. I have the car on jacks ready to put the tranny up, got it jacked up using a floor jack having a hec of a time trying to get it all lined up. (either hitting frame were control arm connects to or hitting back of tranny on body/wheel well) even tried taking out back up switch for that little extra clearance. Ive herd some people saying to sesaw it in or install it at an angle but id like a proper answer from someone who has done a few of these.thanks in advance for the help.

You cant just raise it up. You need to tip it up so it can slide over the frame and once its past that you can put the jack under it and use the jack to raise it. Usually I first put the trans under the car. From the passenger side of the car I life it up while someone places a jack under it. After that I jack it up a few clicks and then man handle it up while angling it. It slides right over the frame and then i have the person on the jack, jack fast to get tension on it. Once there is tension its just jiggling it around until it slide on. Ive only had to do it a good ten times now. haha. I got it down to 3.5 hours in/out.

thanks again big help, wow id say you were a master at it by now haha, to bad from michigan could use an extra hand. p.s. can you do it by yourself or 2 people is needed.

Haha.

I have done it by myself. More man handling is needed along with a higher car jacked up. You place the trans on the jack, slide it through the driverside wheel well, get it lined up. Then go over the fender and angle the bell housing upward and slide the rear of the trans over the frame area. Once its over you can have it rest on the engine, to give you a break. In this time use the jack to jack the trans up all the way. Little more tricky but it still can be done. Hope it helps.

thanks man it sure does :thumb:

Put the trans under the car, lean over the passenger fender, pull it up, and stab it on. Make sure to get it all the way on, and run a bolt in so it doesn't rest on the clutch disk.

So ive been at it for a few hours last night and tonight and can only seem to get the tranny on and all the way in but its not on the dowel pins its cocked to the right a bit i try to pull it out a bit and spin it left but tranny just hits the frame to the left of me.would it be any help if i took bolt out of a motor mount an jacked up motor a bit to get more clearance? Ive downloaded some pics to show what i mean. Thanks again everyone for your inputs.

It's next to Impossible to do with a trans jack. Either lift it up and stab it on straight, or use a hoist. They aren't very heavy, if you lean over the fender, there are a couple good places to grab them.

Thanks everyone for the help going to unhook a motormount jack up the motor then i should be able to make it. Ive also have read some people have the same problem and have to move the motor up od down a bit to get it. Ill report back

UPDATE: took back motormount bolt and drivers mount bolt out jacked motor up a bit and tranny went right on. Wow what a relief!!!!:hellyeah::thumb:Thanks to who responded, you all were a big help.
