Well I have had the as my friends would call the "Getto" CLipse for 8 years new and bought it for 250$ bucks from a class mate. He sold me it for the price of the car as he bought it and the price of the clutch set in the front seat. I have had it ever since and love the ugly Betty. It has the 1.8 and I have always wanted to put the 2.0 into it. After 8 years I now have the 2.0 bought from a salvage yard and plan to build and rebuild the car as it was meant to be. The pictures will tell the horrible past and the mistakes made with this car but it will come together.
The car had no front bumper and the stock head lights didn't work.
First great idea.... Convert it to 95 head lights... That's cool right?
Not so much. They never looked right. I regretted that decision ever since.
It gets better convert to 2nd Gen fenders to match the head lights. Not so good.
Well my plan now is to take it back to stock and go with the classic look with a little bit new.
This beauty is also 5 different colors.
Original Red
Flat Black
White Fiberglass
Primer Grey
Rust - Yes it is a color
Well after putting the clutch in the car ran fine. Almost 30 mpg.
The interior had been devastated by a family of mice. "Never leave an open bag of sunflower seeds on the floor of your car." Especially if your parking it in a field.
I have pulled all the carpet and replaced it.
Pulled the whole dash and washed, power washed, and scrubbed the crap out of it.
I found out later that the car was owned by a high school kid who beat the crap out of it.
All of the interior was busted or missing.
The rear interior was not saveable.
That is when I ran into the first problem.
The factory seat belts died. In my area it was 150 a peace to replace.
I did the next best thing Bought 5 point harnesses. Cheaper and more fun.
They don't tell you they fit like crap unless you have the seats.
Don't get me wrong I am a trained mechanic never customized anything but wiring and stereos. I was pretty new to this area.
Have a degree in Auto technologies with a specialization in custom sheet metal fab and paint. Didn't cover this though.
