Just picked up a 89 galant with a single cam 4g63. I'm not new to Mitsubishi as I have 2 1g eclipse.

So I picked it up owner said fuel pump wasn't working. Checked it and it's good. Checked sparked and seems to be some what intermediate. Pulled cap and rotor looks good.

Cranked it and the cam is spinning so no broken timing belt. Tried cranking with starting fluid and still nothing. Engine oil looks good. Doesn't even sound like it's trying to light off. Where do I go from now?

What tells the injectors to fire on the single cam?

The sohc 4G63 is vary easy to fix. check to make sure the distributor is pointing to the #1 spark plug when your #1 piston is at tdc on the compression stroke if not you have to realign it.

the next thing I'd do is check the ignition control module [and it's wiring] it should looks like this

it's usually bolted in between the intake and the valve cover.

Could also be the distributor or maybe the ecu has bad caps.

So. I Pulled the ecu today and it is the cleanest ecu I've seen. Checked the cool kt ohms good. Injectors are firing. And I have 150 across all 4. No spark tough. I'm guessing the ignition control. Is it also called the ptu in the service manual? Not sure how to check it

well often times i have seen corrosion in the ptu [known in the After-market as ICM or ignition control module] sensor wire pins, so remove the wire connector, and make sure they are all clean, before testing, also check the ignition coil.

The link below should help you test the ICM/PTU and the ignition coil... I know it's for the 3.0 montero, they use the same ICM and coil as your "89 Galant, but specs should be the same.

Coil checked out good. There is some corrosion. I ordered a new ignition control unit. Hopefully it's that. This car has the nicest wiring I've ever seen on a 80s/90s Mitsubishi. Metal Clip is off ptu for testing.

the best way is to get a wire pin extractor and remove the pin to clean it as much as you can 1 wire at a time... but to diagnose it you can try and lightly scrape off some of the corrosion with a pin or a straight pick, and then see if it gets it off enough to get the car to start... and if it will you found your problem, and then it's worth getting the proper pin extractor set, so you can brush away all of the corrosion.

I used this pic set on my dsm harness I bet it would work on a Galant too https://www.amazon.com/Astro-78445-...?ie=UTF8&qid=1493640885&sr=8-1&keywords=78445

Shes fixed. It was a bad ignition cool module for anyone else that has this issue in the future.

Runs awesome after sitting for 3 years.
