ok so i have a 7 bolt that just developed a rod knock at high rpms. checked my oil and it has flakes :banghead: so i was gong to just rebuild the 7 bolt but then i thought 6 bolts have bigger rods and stronger cranks but its gonna run me $4000 or the 7 bolt is $2500. i know the price is kinda high but the difference unbelieveable need some advice ### should i do??

What is making the price so different? 4k for a stock 6 bolt is outrageous. I would honestly go with a 6-bolt just because its the ideal thing to do. The 7 bolt is good too and plenty of people have gone fast on them. It is all personal preference.

That price is insane. You can find a 6 bolt for alot cheaper than that. I found a whole 93 tsi for $300 haha. so just do some searching around.

ok so with 4k its would cover the engine with 2g head and pistons, steel headgasket, ported intake and exhaust and it would all be installed and the 2.5k would cover just a rebuilt 7 bolt and installation im kinda leaning towards the 6 bolt

Look man first search around the forums this topic as been cover, second you need a goal, ether you want it all go 600++hp or, reliability with some power still.

If you're looking for a built motor, and if you don't want to do it your self, I would suggest by one off a vendor from tuners.

this is just a block the head will run you another $500++

all I'm saying is you need a goal anything is possible, with 4k you can have a 6 bolt swapped in your car up and running with goods.

honestly their charging me 2k just to put it in for a fully built engine with evrything i listed earlier is only gonna run 2k and engine is capable of 500++ hp my goal is really just to have 500 or so horse i think it would be smarter to just install myself. so that way i learn more about my dsm and save 2k right?

like i said befor if i was in your shoes, i would sale the 7 bolt get a 6 bolt built from any vendors here on tuners get your self all the parts needed for the 6 bolt swap and then bring it some where for install.

and after all this is set and done you have done everything for under 4k.

7 bolt can be just as good as the 6 bolt but me i like to have peace of mind, and cranck walk is something i dont want to think about, thats my reson for 6bolt, but ether or are good to go.
