hey guys I have a 99 GSX and I recently blew my 16g.. so I tore down everything.. I dont have alot of money so I just want to dress up my 7 bolt with 110,000 miles on it. I pulled the main bearing cradle off and inspected the bearings and everything looked ok and the thrust bearing did not seem very worn out. But I feeler gauged the piston to cylinder clearance and only in some spots it was slightly out of spec.. So finally my question is it ok that I just put rod and main bearings on and a new gasket kit for the motor? O btw crank endplay was only .003 so im within spec.

Why did you tear apart your motor if your turbo went out WTF

All you need to do is either get a new turbo or rebuild it if it's able to be rebuilt.

i figured since i was putting a new turbo on that would put more stress on the motor.. therefore i figured the motor should be checked for clearances and make sure i wasnt putting a new turbo on a bad motor.. and i was slightly out of spec on the piston to cylinder clearance.. do you think that will be ok to just run new bearings and gaskets?

One thing that I've always told costumers that think they should do something "just cause" when doing something else is..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

It saves time, money, and worries

There are exceptions sometimes......sometimes

ide honestly say new mls head gasket a set of bearings and rods. if you have stock 2g rods thats your big weak link. If you go with those it shouldnt be too much money. I always try to not blow things up... if your bottom end lets loose you rise damaging your block ( been there done that. ). Its apart now, heres your chance to do it.

I agree, It's already apart so do what you have the time and money to do to maybe stop a problem later. That's alot of work to take the whole engine apart for a blown turbo tho. I agree step up to the MLS HeadGasket. Good Luck with your setup.:hellyeah:

Save your money and just put it back together. If you are just running a 16g, it's a waste of time to blow your money on building up the bottom end. The stock bottom end is more than adequate for a 16g setup.

I'd say if the bottom end is already apart then now is the time for some new rods/bearings/pistons/rings. Then if u plan to upgrade in the future you'll have the piece of mind that you'll be safer. Just my .02 though.

If you tore it down and apart, you might as well build up the internals for future goals. However, if you are leaving it stock you'll need to use a composite HG unless you get both the head and block resurfaced to a mirror shine to utilize a MLS HG.

thanks for the advice.. my ideal plan was to temporally run the 7 bolt and save my money for a new rebuilt six bolt. I just didnt want to start up the car and have the motor blow within the first 100 miles.. So as long as i have good oil pressure then I should be ok.. Also where are the oil squirters located so i can make sure they are clean?
