Alright, I have my '99 7 bolt torn down waiting to be reassembled right now. For some reason, I can't get the old gasket material off the front case without causing damage, no matter which method I use. Also, the head of the phillips head screw for the oil pump cover is stripped. I would feel much better just purchasing a new front case and oil pump.

I guess I'm just confused about what I need to buy. When I look on JNZ, STM, etc., I see that a 6 bolt front case can be purchased and includes the oil pump gears. However, when looking at the 7 bolt oem front case, JNZ lists that the oil pump gears are not included. It also seems like "7 bolt" oil pump gears aren't sold, but 6 bolt gear sets are.

My question is: What is my best option for a new front case and oil pump for my '99 7 bolt? Sticking with OEM style components (no billet front case, etc.). I see the ACL units for cheap, but I'm not sure I trust myself to evaluate tolerances and clean up and burs once I have one on my bench.

Any input is appreciated!

After looking some more today, it seems most vendors besides JNZ include the oil pump gears with the front case. Not sure how I missed it! Sorry for the unnecessary thread.

You're misreading something..

ALL of the OEM 7-bolt cases/pumps (DSM or Evo) come with the gears (helical cut).

6-bolts, do NOT come with gears--we offer the choice of Helical or Straight Cut gears with our 6-bolt oil pumps, but the gears are included in the 7-bolt units. If places are selling them with the gears, they are simply adding the price of the gears into the pump cost, and not offering the choice.

It has nothing to do with the vendor that is selling them, but with the way that they come from Mitsubishi.

Aftermarket pumps, may be different. We do not sell them due to the higher failure rate, and I cannot comment on that aspect.

You're right, I was most likely misunderstanding something. My apologies, and I meant absolutely nothing negative about JNZ! I've recently ordered more parts from you guys than any other vendor, at least $1,500 if not more. Thanks for the awesome service!

Not an issue at all, and I didn't mean to come off that way.

I just wanted to clarify the issue, and if there's something that we need to improve upon in the description, I want to know about it.

It's *our* responsibility to be clear and concise on these matters.

Thank you for your business!
