Need help. On the main oil gallery on the front of the block where it meets the first oil supply to the #1 bearing, is that factory or has someone modified it?I've watched too many Jafromobile videos and in his 4g63 Block Oil Gallery Mod video, this 6-bolt looks completely different.

I looked for the vin number on the block to help identify what year it was but could not located it. Looks like the block was repainted at one point. The blown block out of the 97 TSI AWD has the same designed oil gallery.

I'll say that it could be a casting flaw but, to me, it appears to be modified. Not sure that this little bit is going to accomplish much, either. Original castings maintain that roughness in the gallery all the way up to main gallery that feeds the bearings. Assuming this is an effort to get nearer to the smoother path and transition for oil moving from the front side of the block into the main gallery shown in articles and references like: 4G63 Block Oiling Mod
