6bolt/7bolt rod journal question, EVO pistons?

Is there a difference in the diameter? I was thinking about using 2g rods on 1g pistons in my 6bolt, but would like to use aftermarket rods. However, it sucks that I would be paying over $300 and then have to have them machined for the 2g pistons. Would it be possible just to skip that step and use the 7 bolt rods in my engine? Were the only difference's other than being a weaker rod, just the resized small end?

How do the EVO pistons stack up against 2g pistons or some of the aftermarket offerings?

evo pistons wont work in a dsm. You have a 6 bolt motor right? Use 1g rods and 2g pistons, or just keep your 1g rods and pistons. I dont see why you would use aftermarket 2g rods to use 1g pi stons ,it doesnt make any sense

Sorry, a little dislexia there. I meant to ask about the 2g pistons on 1g rods, but got mixed up.

What I was actually asking was if I could use aftermarket 2g rods with stock 2g pistons in my 6bolt motor instead of 2g pistons on aftermarket 1g rods to save maching expenses on brand new aftermarket 1g rods. Does that make sense?

You need to use 2G pistons, and machine the OEM 1G rod. Small end on the rod needs to shaven down. Aftermarket rods have free floating wrist pin design, but the stock is press-fit wrist pin. If you were to go as far as running aftermarket rods on your 6bolt, you would be better of w/ going aftermarket pistons.

Why wouldn't evo pistons work in DSM?

I wouldn't even bother with the 2G pistons. Just save up a little more cash and go with some Weisco's 8.5:1 and 1G rods.

Wrist pins are different. And they might cost as much as the one's I mentioned above.

They will Turbotrix sells sets for $290, but you would have to have the 1g rod machined just as with the 2g pistons. As far as how they stack up they have a little bit higher compression ratio and are a little lighter than 2g pistons, but as far as using 7 bolt rods in a 6 bolt motor the 92.5 to 94 are the ones you would want to use, the crank diameter is the same, but I am not sure on the bearing clearences and the works, not to mention that you would have to have everything balanced and then possibly it still not working.

I have just had a VR4 engine rebuilt using JE pistons that are originally for Evos (1,2 and 3). To fit them, the little ends were resized to take the larger gudgeon. Also, a cheap upgrade for VR4s (in New Zealand anyway,) is use reversed (on the gudgeon) Evo 6.5 pistons. These are a 'semi-forged' and are good for up to 22psi on pump gas in a VR4 (using a 20g, I think.)

Mike.

I have evo pistons in my 90 block and i have no problems whatsoever. I think they are a good buy for the money.

Talk about bringing something back from the dead. Are you going around and replying to any thread that talks about evo pistons. POST WHORE ROFL
