-6AN for Oil Cooler?

-8 is recommended for external oil coolers.
I got a great deal on a B&M 8x11 oil cooler but it came with -6 fittings and lines.

Anyone run into problems using -6 for an oil cooler?

This is on a 6bolt with a 90 oil cooler. Balance shafts deleted, BS bearings are turned, Running a SBR GT11 dual ball bearing turbo which feeds off the head with a restrictor and inline filter.

I do not have experience using after market lines and coolers on my 1g yet, but I imagine the bulk of what is important is the design of the cooler which in this case is a stacked plate by b&m which is very efficient and of high quality when it comes to coolers. -6 is 3/8ths hose versus -8 which is 1/2 inch so you would be loosing some volume with the smaller lines but I would not think it would have any ill effect on your engine, as the thermostatic switch on the oil filter housing opens and closes allowing oil to flow through the cooler when a certain temperature is reached. if you are really concerned you can get -6 to -8 adapters and get -8 push lock fittings with 1/2 hose in the interim. Or just stick with what you have. Wish I could be more helpful.

If your concern is specific to oil pressure being too high with the smaller lines I do not believe that would have any effect on your overall oil pressure, rather a slight limitation in flow to and from the oil cooler when the thermostat is open.

The stock 90 oil cooler lines are 3/8- 10mm in the steel tube section.
I wouldn't think -6AN would be a problem.

Great information there on the thermostatic switch on the OFH.
The lines are only about a foot long and I didnt think 3/8" to 1/2" would cause a major problem. In fact I just worked on a VR4 3000gt and the OEM cooler lines were 3/8" ID.

Why are you deciding on -6AN over 8? is it because you already have them? If yes...
