I am trying to hook up my gen 2 oil cooler on my 1998 Talon TSI with a gen 1 block and gen 2 head. The bracket is from a gen 1 non- turbo and there is too much room. I do not know jf I have the wrong bracket or the wrong cooler or if there is another piece that I may need in order to complete the hookup.

We need to know specifically which year the 1st gen block is from. Is it a '90 6 bolt, '91-92.5 6 bolt, or '92.5-94 7 bolt? If it's a '90 it's made for the air-oil cooler but the other years have the water-oil cooler.

It is from a 92 Plymouth Laser 6 bolt but the manufactured year on the door from the Laser is July 1991

I think we are confused if you are talking about a true oil cooler which looks like a radiator for oil or the oil filter housing? if its the housing (gen 2 from a laser??) that i believe your talking about then techno is right and you need a 1g turbo oil filter housing to fit your 1g tsi block.

Yeah it is the oil filter housing that i needed. I don't know if i need a sandwich oil cooler and if a front mount housing bracket would be better.

Switching to a '90 OFH and running an air-oil cooler is an upgrade, but using the sandwich style water-oil cooler would work too. I can't speak 100% but I would assume the oil cooler from your '98 should fit the '91-92.5 OFH.

The NA housing is as long as the turbo with the cooler you can see it in this picture
You could add a coolant cooler to it but it would cause the oil filter to move closer to the downpipe
