Hey guys. I'm in a serious problem. I have this noise coming from the timing belt side of my engine. I can't figure it out at all!!! I put all new timing components on there. Timing belt, timing tensioner pulley and auto-tensioner, idler pulley, balance shaft ten. pulley and belt. EVERYTHING. But this noise is still there. It get louder as rpm increases. Compression is between 160-170 and all four cylinders. With all accessory belts off noise is still there. Oil pressure is between 50-55 at 1000 rpm. I don't want to drive the car because i'm afraid of blowing the motor. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ADVICE???..THANKS GUYS.

have you had the oil pan off? then the noise started? look at your time belt for grooves/shredding at the edges

Well i really can't post a video.. Don't really have a camera to do that.. But the guy before me told me a cloth had got stuck in the timing belt one time on start up. So that why i did the compression test. But to me 160-170 psi is pretty good. I know its not the alternator, water pump, or power steering pump. My oil pressure is at 55psi on a cold start up. I havent driven the car to see what it does while driving... when i pulled the accessory belts off, i also had the timing cover off as well. I even took off the crank pulley..

I did have a bent intake cam gear. But it wasn't really that bad of a bent. It was wobbling just a little bit. But i also changed that. Never dropped the oil pan. i haven't put a mile on the car since i put the new timing stuff on there.. But i have let it run for hours and there are no marks on the belt at all...

You sure that you have the right tensioner pulley and that it was rotated in the correct direction for your mount? The two holes in the pulley are rotated to set the tension and they rotate up on a 1G but down on a 2G. If you do it backward the pulley will grind on the water pump if I remember correctly.

I had a similar thing happen on my 1g swap. I had all new 1g timing parts and had ringing noise. Turned out the tensioning pulley was rubbing on the water pump I ended up putting a washer behind the pulley. 1500 miles on it and all is well. I'm not sure if the water pump casting was off or I did something wrong but it works.

I had bought 1g timing components after reading an article on this forum. Today I checked the tensioner pulley to see if it was rubbing on anything. No marks , no shavings, no nothing. Everything still looks brand new. I finally drove the car today. It actually runs pretty strong. Doesnt overheat. Idles at 1000 rpm when warm. Oil pressure is a 20 psi. 8 pounds of boost. And you really don't hear the grinding noise when the hood is closed. The car does pump out a lot white smoke when it starts to boost.. and it smokes a little at idle. Maybe all these problems are from one thing?...
