Anyone know the factory spec for the big end of a big rod. I am just double checking the machinist, and none of my books or cd's have the info. The bearings seem a little tight, i just want to make sure that they are correct. Thanks

What info are you looking for exactly? the diameter of the rod that bolts onto the crank? I can reference my chiltons real quick

I will give you the info that I do see
"connecting rod big end-to-crankshaft side clearance" 0.0040-0.0098 in.
"Connecting rod bearing oil clearance" 0.0008-0.0020 in.
"Crankshaft main bearing oil clearance" 0.0008-0.0016 in.
"Crankshaft Pin outside diameter" 1.7709-1.7715 in.
"Crankshaft journal outside diameter" 2.2433-2.2439 in.

Hope this Helps. Those are the specs for the 6 bolt engine. building a 6 bolt? what parts are you going to build it with?

What bearings are you using and what is the clearance that you have now?

i am using standard sealed power bearings, i havn't assembled the motor yet, becauase i want to make sure that the inside diameter of the rod is correct, i have never been to this machinist before, and i am just checking his work before i install the parts.

That's a good idea, good machinst's are hard to find. What measurement are you getting from the rod? Do you have the caps torqued down? What are you using to measure the big end?

You want to torque the rod up with the bearing installed, then measure the ID. Measure it with a dial bore gauge set to the OD of the crank journal . That will give you your clearance and if there is a problem with the big end of the rod, that's where it will show up.
