Regina,
My 6 bolt talon is crankwalking. The mechanic measured the crank endplay as 0.66" or something which is far too much. Ans I have all of the symtoms. Is their anything I can do to fix this or is it just pooched for life.

P.S. the crank is already grinded to .40 over.

Well 0.66 is a little less than 11/16", could it perhaps be 0.066?
Was your crank ground 0.040 undersiz on both the rod and crank journals?

Without disassembly it would be unwise to speculate on the condition of the engine components. However I would suggest a new or good used crank should be found.

The only way to fix it right is pull the motor before a rod lets go. .040 off the crank is way to much you should have found a better core and had .010 off both rods and mains and is the max I would go. New cranks are very expensive $600 so I would find a good core buy new rod and main bearings a gasket kit then pull the motor. It sucks but it has to be done if you want to get any power out of it in the future.
The main thing here is how did this happen?? First was the crank gound correctly, was the thrust bearings alighned when assembleing the motor, was there correct free play in the clutch??

I agree with at least finding a new crank, or a new block and and cranck w/ main caps of course, and building that. With the way bottom ends are so easy to find, its the best way to go.
Besides that, Mitsubishi states the cranks to be non serviceable items from the factory, and trying to make some decent power on a .40 under ground crank is not something I'd be interesting it doing.
