6 Bolt block identification

I recently got a block machined but as I was looking it over I noticed its not a turbo block. I also noticed that the main caps are different, where is the turbo version has "suitcase handles".

Looks like a 4G64 block

Check on the side of the block and see what it says, If that's a 2.4, it should be stamp as G4cs.

The stamp says 4g63.

It's not a DSM 6-bolt, all of which had the same main caps. Could very well be a Galant SOHC 4G63 which had the individual mains, but the easiest thing to do here is check the VIN.

Well that's unfortunate. I would love to see more pictures of the different sides of the block.

As I stated, my best guess is a SOHC 4G63 from a Galant.

Block doesn't have a vin.

There has got to be some number on there that will point you in the right direction and if not then you might just have to go get different block that you know for a fact is what your looking for.

I've checked the entire block for clues to what the vin might be. But It's not like im looking for a certain block in perticular so I don't see the point in getting another one. I'm just curious to what this block came out of.

I know this is not alot of help but more info. I am still looking into what I can. I thought all the turbo motors had y2.0l stamped on the block like yours.Mitsubishi 2.0 to 3.0 Engine Applications, '88-95

They did not.

Anyway, whatever it is from, I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Well thanks for the reassurance! I should be starting to put it together here soon, I just need to pick up a few tools and new dowel pins. I've already got wiseco pistons, eagle rods, and acl bearings. Hopefully with the help of my factory service manual and the community it will come together fairly smooth.

And now that I have a super JDM block I can compete with the horde of subarus in my town.

Just curious and it may not mean anything, but did the head come with and attached to the block?

Haha ya I was just kidding, all the subaru owners here talk about how they have jdm this and that. But yes the head came attached to the block, it was in my 91 AWD that I decided to take apart.

Not really. I can't see the 2 bridges on the normal 6 bolt main cap adding a ton of stability to the bottom end. If you want to make a lot of power than i would consider a main girdle. The upside to the main caps being separate is that it will cost a bit less to have it line bored if it needs to be done.

I'm planning around 500hp, I already had all the machine work done it's just a matter of me putting it together. But thank you for your help!

You should be fine at that power level. One thing on these engines that i have yet to see let go is a main cap. They are pretty stout in the bottom end.

I do believe that even the NA eclipse blocks have different main caps. I think that bryanwheat is correct that it is out of an sonata.
