ok i think this is a 90, possible 91 tranny and 5th gear grinds. usually the first shift into 5th is great but then on the way home i dont shift into 5th until im almost home and then it grinds. i have gm synchromesh in it. what would/could cause this? seriously it CANT be a synchro could it? (unless they missed 5th or screwed it up?) i put some gm snync down the spedometer cable and it deff. seemed to help. should i put more in it? if u dont use 5th like ever would the fiber sync ring dry out then? cuz the guy who ownd this b4 only drove it in town. double clutching seems to help 50/50...

come on somebody HAS had 5th grind, i know they have. also no movement in the stick at all in 5th.

This is really easy to check. Drain your trans fluid and take off the end case of the transmission. Its like 7 bolts that you can get to from the passenger wheel well. Look at the picture at the arrow pointing to the 36mm nut on the left. Check to see if this nut is loose at all. Some tend to come loose which will cause 5th to grind or pop out.
