Ok, so just randomly 5th gear is now forcing itself out.

Like it goes nice and smooth into 5th, then the shifter just pushes my hand back a bit, it stays in gear until I hit a bump or accelerate a bit. If I hold in place by hand its fine. But it wnt stay if I let go.

Doesn't grind or anything. Which I thought was strange.

Any ideas. I did Search But problem seemed a little different, and this trans to my knowledge is in perfect condtion till now. This just started out of no where.

Now that I think of it, I think the trans mount is missing 1 bolt.. LOL I bet that its...

syncros wont make it pop out.

if tightening the nuts doesnt work then it's either worn shift rails or worn shift fork. My 3rd wouldnt stay in gear even forcing it. ended up being a badly worn shift fork

I highly doubt the trans is shot, I noticed if I put the car in 5th gear stopped, and try to take off, it moves and doesn't pop out.

So it's engine level based. On decel, its fine, accel it pops out.

It appears

1. I am missing 1 bolt from the trans mount.
2. My engine front mount, is missing both bushing peices.
I think I found the problem.

I agree, sounds like the big 36mm? i think, nut on the end of 5th gear. Highly doubt the shift fork is worn, the 5th gear one is steel with a nylonish sleeve. The fact that its more localized to just 5th only leads me to believe that nut back off and is loose.

Well, Wouldn't it do it all the time then???

Like I said it only does it at when the engine is under load, enough to make it tilt.

I could take off in 5th and be fine, its just at like 30 mph+ i put it in 5th gear and she wants to move out unless I hold it. It will stay until I hit a bump... I will check into the nut backing off, again it is a

N/T 5 spd trans.

It was loose the nut.... I tightened and reinstalled, and punched the nut... getting ready for test drive soon. But yeh, nut was finger tight, and had no punch mark really, so it could spin freely.

Update: It's all fixed. :). Thanks guys.

you said your motor mounts are bad as well right?? well that can cause it also cause if your trans is moving forward or backwards its gonna mess with the linkage so maybe the trans is rocking back and forth might have a little something that made that come loose.

That would have no effect on the end nuts in the transmission. They come loose from not being staked down properly.
