Quick question.. I am currently running on a big 16g at the moment with the only fuel mods being a 230lph fuel pump re-wired. I can get these 510CC JDM injectors out of the old galant for pretty cheap. Will i beable to run these injectors and still maintain a smooth idle and not run super rich with out any type of tuning atleast for 1 month until i can afford a Safc2?

Thanks alot guys!

It will run very rich and you will most likely lose power. Just wait until you can afford the safc. However the safc isnt going to tune your car by itself you need some sort of datalogging equipment (pocketlogger).

Yeah, you'll probably stutter under boost, and if you don't, you'll barely be able to tell you're boosting from how rich it is. Just hold off on putting everything in until you can buy everything you need.

Perhaps the first mod should be an AFPR (adjustable fuel pressure regulator) so that you can set fuel pressure properly at the fuel rail. Any pump over 190 requires this otherwise it'll run pig rich now. Another option is to do the AFPR, change the injectors and then use an EPROM ECU with a Keydiver chip from http://www.dsmchips.com that will take the fuel injector deadtime into account so that you don't have to use an AFC. There are people using 680's that have their AFC's set to 0 across the board with this chip if that gives you any idea. Do a little bit of research and see what works best for you.

Good luck!

P.S. I noticed you have a 95, so all you'd need is the chip and not the whole ECU. Upgrades when you change injectors are only $20 and there's a host of other features that can be enabled.

Ya i understand.. Ya Im just going to wait and save up and do it the right way!!!! first safc2 and datalogger.. and then 550cc's ... then later down the road the all mighty dsmlink

The combination of 255 without afpr and the 510s will run extremely rich, you'll be better off staying with the 450s until you're ready.

If you got that chip from Jeff, pay the $20 for an update and get it set up for some EVO VIII 560's (Pick them up off EVOM for under $200), get a AFPR and skip the SAFC. Go directly to DSMlink when you can afford it. I's say get the 510s for cheap but there likely to have a few too many miles on them.

The ecu was tuned for 450cc injectors.. I can get the 510cc for under $100.00 .. I dont know where the ecu was tuned because I did not own the car when it was tuned. But I can contact the past owner and find out. So you recommend I get it re-programed again then get the Fuel pressure regulator and I'll be alright with the 510's temp? Or skip the 510's and go straight to the 560's?.. And how can I contact jeff?

Thanks guys!

Depends on how much money you can scrape together. The most pressing need is a AFPR to tame your out of control fuel pump. My issue with using the yellow tops is the question what shape they're in, you would really want to have them cleaned and flowed and by the time you do that you can almost buy low mile EVO VIII hand-me-downs that are better injectors than any aftermarket 550's.

I only person I know making chips for 2G's is Keydiver @ dsmchips, so if you actually have a socketed ECU with a chip to remove fuel cut that would be the first place I'd send you to get a n upgraded chip reprogrammed for whichever injectors you get. That will have the car run as if those injectors were stock and you can live without the SAFC without hurting your car.

I'd offer to burn you one but I haven't spent enough time working on the 2G code.

Alright I really appreciate the help on this. I think i can pick up a set of 560cc's from my buddy for around $175.00 Ill try and scrape some money up.. I didnt know you could get the ecu reprogrammed for higher injectors and not run into any issues.. Sounds pretty straight forward.. I understand this should only be a temporarily thing until i can come together and afford DSMLINK. Im definitly interested in doing this. Thanks alot for all the feedback and resourcefull information.

Tom,

You can reach Jeff at [email protected] and let him know what injectors you'll be using so he can program the deadtime into his chip. Once you swap that, the deadtime figure will eliminate the need for an AFC. Your path is pretty much similar to mine in that this is just a temporary stepping stone to DSMLink.

Good Luck!

Andy

FYI, Jeff reports using 680's in his VR4 with his AFC zeroed out, so if you want to go bigger than 550's or 560's, go for it!

There are two parameters in the code specific to changing injectors, the injector fuel global and the deadtime map. The first allows the ECU to correctly compute the basic injector pulse width needed for the current conditions and the deadtime map is indexed by battery voltage to correct for the delay in actual opening and closing of the injector from the time the ECU send the signal. Deadtime gets added in to the basic pulse width resulting in the injector pulse width you can monitor with a datalogger. Both parameters are specific to the injectors you use.
