Basically, everytime I go into 4th, if I don't put it in there pretty hard it will pop out if i get right back on the gas right away. Problem is, I'm always right on the gas during daily driving and racing, since if you wait for a second for a gear you pretty much have to go back into 3rd again or you'll bog. I just don't see why my 4th gear is such a pain. All my other gears engage pretty nicely, however, 4th gear pops out whenever I get on the gas right after putting it in gear.

i had a trans like that once.. my problem was a cracked bellhousing.. everytime i'd press the clutch the bellhousing would seperate... so it made it hard to get it in gear.

hope thats not your problem tho.

I have the same 4th gear problem on my 99 GST. It will go in and stay but only if I wait 4 seconds before letting the clutch out. Also when you first go into reverse in the morning do you have to let the clutch pedal up halfway before it will go in?

I had the tranny overhauled at a tranny shop 2 yrs ago for the exact same problem (for $1300 with me pulling it ). I'm going to take it apart and do it myself this time (since they obviously can't fix it right ). I've been told it can be a broken poppet spring, loose 36mm input/intermediate shaft nuts, bad syncro, bent fork, bad cone spring. It may take a couple months before I can get to it. In the mean time I now have a 4 speed tranny. :notgood:

Yes! It won't go into reverse right away in the morning pulling it out of my garage either! It will almost go in, but I have to play around with the clutch pedal before it goes in. Finally somebody out there with my exact problem OMG

U P D A T E :

After some testing, I guess if I make 4th gear my b*tch and make dang sure I have it in the slot and hold until I am back on the gas it seems to want to stay in and engage. So for now I should be fine, especially since it's pretty rare when you have to "Slam" yourself into 4th gear :p However this problem is still interesting.
