some of this was touched upon in other threads but here is my dilema... i have a 4g64 with a 1g 4g63t head swap. ive got 8.8:1 wiseco pistons(i dont know if this matters or not, so ive included it). im looking to get a copper head gasket(i dont know pro's or con's) and so im having an interesting time finding the right gaskets in general. as you know the 4g64's bore is 86.5mm and the 4g63's is smaller at 85.0mm. do i get a gasket for the 4g64, or the 4g63(i have a stock 1g 4g63 head gasket? those who have done the swap say to use the 4g63 gasket, but wont the difference in bore size matter? but back to the copper head gasket, what size should i get in thickness? is there a shop or someplace that can tell me what i need? let me know who i can ask or talk to, if you yourselves dont know. thanks, anyways, heres what the block looks like right now.

I don't personally know from experience, but I've heard for a copper head gasket to hold its seal at high boost levels the block and head have to be o-ringed. From my V8 friends I've heard that honda bond helps keep it sealed. Honda bond is what honda uses to hold its motorcycle engines together. So don't get discouraged if your copper head gasket doesn't seal on the first attempt. With that being said could I recommend a MLS head gasket such as cometic or the OEM one, which are both just torque and go?

I'm building a 4G64/4G63 hybrid, like yours- check my blog for build details. Don't get a copper head gasket - because unless you're building a race car, you really shouldn't use one. They're not designed for the constant heating/cooling cycles of a daily driver.

With that being said, most people just use the OEM head gasket. However, Cometic now makes an MLS part designed exactly for our application - and that's what I'm going to use, so obviously, I recommend it. Oh, and whatever head gasket you use, make sure it's for a 4G64.

And if you are building a race car, let's hope it's not that Spyder. You'll have more problems than simple head gasket issues turining that beast into a proper race car. Trust me. I have one, too. :)

Stay away from the copper gasket.

I would say if you have the cash to spend, go for the Felpro Permatorque MLS gasket. They are one of the best, if not the best headgaskets for this engine right now.

If not, a good ol' factory composite gasket will do the trick if your good enough to keep knock away, or the Mitsubishi MLS will work as well.

I would stay away from Cometic, they are not as good of a gasket as the factory MLS, Felpro MLS, or in alot of cases, arent even as good of a gasket as the factory composite gasket.

Do you have any hard facts to this because I've sure read more threads and builds using the cometic mls than oem and heard nothing but good things. Unless you have cold hard facts that the cometic gasket is faulty, or proven to have a high failure rate then your opinion should not be stated as fact.

Also, I'm building a 2.4L Hybrid engine with a 99 4g64 block, and a 1G SBR Stage VI head. I just recently bought CP pistons but have sold them and now purchasing a set of Wisecos from SBR. I'm using Eagle rods, and Eagle 4g64 crank. I am also using a tubular exhaust manifold (for now) and a Holset H2E turbo with 85mm throttle body on a custom made SMIM (jmf clone).

In order to use a copper head gasket, your head and block have to be o-ringed.

If your persistent on using the copper head gasket, and don't want to get the head and block o-ringed, then try laying 0.010" copper wire in circles around the bores, water ports, and oil passages. I've read that this works!
