I know the stock head gasket thickness is .051 inch's but i had to have my head and block both decked. My valves are extremely close to touching the pistons. I was wondering if i could just order a cometic head gasket with a custom thickness of .061 inches just to be safe on clearance. By my measurements this would bring it close to a stock height. Any adverse side effects from running a .061 head gasket i should know about before I order 1.:aha:

as long as your head and deck are the proper RA rating you can use a mls gasket. i would say go for it, people are going to tell you to use an oem mls though:thumb:

How close are the valves to pistons?

Did you clay the valve relifes?

Rule of thumb, you want appox .040 clearance on the intake and .060 on the exahust.

Remember theg is an interferabce engine, so the valves run close as is from the factory.

My head was decked to the limit of .015 inches and my block was decked .004 inches so im really close. I did clay them up and they are practically touching but i can spin it through freely. Just wondering if it is ok to use a .061 gasket.

If you can find a .061 gasket, then use it no issues

I have seen heads milled down to 5.16x arunning stock hg

Crankwalker, you need to re do your math.

.71mm is .02795 so that is thinner than stock
Did you mean .710 that is almost 3/4 of an inch
or .071 thick HG, that still at .020 thicker than stock will not give enough to drop your comp that much.

What else did you do to go from 9.5 to 7.0 comp? shorter rods? bigger dish pistons? use stroker pistons in a non stroked engine build?
