Okay everyone so Ive looked around and there's very few threads about this specifically, so here's what I want to find out.

does the automatic transmission for the 4g64 spyder engine work for turbo blocks, 6 bolt and 7 bolt ? There was just a cupple posts that mentioned that this CAN be done, assuming you have the matching flywheel & starter plate / starter & a few other things, if you grind off a 'bump' in the bell housing area.

Also saw a post that if you DO set this up, it will drive but won't last long at all because they're weaker. Any truth to this? Was hoping to go automatic in the future actually, seems that a FWD turbo trans is hard to find. So this is for future reference.

thanks in advance

Yes, the Spyder GS trans does bolt up to the DSM 4g63 engine. The 4g64 block is very similar to the 2g 7-bolt. As for the exact details, I'm not sure. I've never actually swapped the transmissions. I've only compared starter plates.

I've also heard that it's not strong enough for a turbo engine, but I've never seen any evidence for/against that claim. I'm not sure if the internals differ by bearing type, synchro design, etc. But guys have pushed the entire 4g64 platform to over 350hp without an issue, so depending on your goals, it may not be an issue either way.

However, I do know the Spyder GS trans is geared lower (less MPH per RPM). Bouncing off the 6k rev limiter I can't get much above 50-55mph in my GS. It'll spin the wheels all day, but overall acceleration is pretty dull. The turbo trans would have much more suitable gear ratio's for a moderate-high powered turbo engine.

It will fit with the 3 bolts flex plate and matching 3 bolts converter. I would not use a non turbo automatic. It might be too weak. It houses less clutches per clutch pack than the turbo auto. If you can get more clutches in it, it might work out for you. You will need to stack two flex plate for strength. The bell housing is smaller than the turbo auto tranny.
