Hey guys...
I'm looking to start from scratch as the current engine in the eclipse is walking along with a blown transmission that's in is due to broken forks :S

Long story short...
Found a 4G64 in a '04 Galant at the local pick and pull for a mere $150 for the complete long block with no accessories with only 78000Kms !!!

After a small chat with the guys at Magnus they said that the 2.1L is fun but if looking for a reliable build should consider the 2.2l because the rod angles aren't as extreme as the 2.1L.

This is what I'm thinking for a 2.2L 750HP capable package:

Head -> 4G63 1G
Ported and Polished
Manley Over sized and back-cut Valves
Magnus Bee Hive springs with Ti retainers
3G Lifters
272/272 DKS Cams
Fidanza cam gears

Block -> 4G64
Custom Ross OR JE pistons
Total Seal rings
Eagle Rods
Crower Crank
ACL Tri metal bearings Mains and Rod bearings

ACC.
Cometic Headgasket
ARP hardware Throughout the engine
SMIM ( not sure if i will buy or will make one )
Fidanza flywheel and ACT 2100 Clutch ( may go twin plate )
Custom Divided T4 header with dual waste gates ( open dump )
T66 turbo .81 A/R turbine and .70 A/R Compressor - 360' Trust bearing
Custom Down pipe with cat delete
Apexi N1 or HK$ Carbon/Ti Cat Back
Intercooler will be a custom 28x10x3 Spearco core with 3" in/out
Fueling will be handled by FIC 1050's fed by Wally 255

due to a recent "incident" my rear sub frame is bent and seems like a perfect excuse for AWD Conversion....
 
Sounds like a solid build with a good tune should be capable of your projected hp defiantly need awd to put the power down from a beast like that so go for the swap and get ready to break axles and tranny's LOL good luck with your build post the dyno runs when your finished very interested in seeing what you can get out of it
 
if you are going to do it right the first time def go with the twin disk and some tranny work. i don't think the 2100 is going to hold up and depeneding on where you are shifting isn't going to want to shift over 7k. oh and you might want to add a fuel pressure regulator to that.

I already have the Aeromotive A1000 FPR that im currently using with the 550's and the wally 190
 
Ok...
Just got home from the pick and pull..
engine is out, but i'm not gonna stick her into the 318 as the car is in near mint condition.
Instead the shop thats prepping it for me is picking it up for me tonite.
The Block will be hot tanked, magna fluxed and decked.

I'm afraid the block will be done quick, but the head will take some time as the guy that does my heads is a bit back logged and wont get around to it for a couple of weeks at minimum, and the reason is that his work is A+ as he flow benches each cylinder individually and matches them. Most shops just port and polish but never flow match the ports.

Anyways....
who should i talk to about getting a AWD trans built ???
i know for sure i want the center diff removed and front and rear LSD's installed :sneaky:

Doesn't seem to be a big market for 4G64 Parts WTF

What are a few "respectable" piston Manufacturers out there....
Off the top of my head i can only think off JE, Arias and Wiseco.

I had JE back in 96 in my Scirocco, but its been a while and back then Wiseco didn't have that "hot" of a reputation in the Sport Compact circle...

Anyways...
Wiseco Does Have the 4G64 pistons, but not at a compression ratio that im happy with.
The ones listed are a 9.7:1 while I'm aiming for a comfortable 8.5:1 or a maximum of 8.8:1.

Also..
There I'm having a bit of confusion with the crank and rods.
both Wiseco and Eagle make cranks in 3 different "throws":
- 88mm
- 97mm
- 100mm

Here's my confusion...
i know that the 100mm throw is the 4G64 Crank, and im not certain, but ...
for me the 97mm crank with 162mm rods looks like the right receipe.
Am i right or am i WAYYYYYYY OFF :confused:
 
Hey, whatever happened to this build.
I read you're swapping an 04' Galant 4G64 in a 2g DSM.

Are the oil pan, oil pump/front case, timing components and the water pump all gonna convert over?
Reason I'm asking is that people with Evo IV - IX's can swap the 99-03 Galant 4G64 into their cars for 2.4L's.

Also, if you want to do a 2.2L in a 4G64 you'll need the following.
Using the stock 4G64 bore pistons of 86.5mm you're displacement will be as follows, but more than likely you'll need to go .010" or .020" over, so depending on which bore diameter and stroke crank you choose you're displacement will be a little higher.
pi * (bore in cm / 2)^2 * (stroke in cm) * (# of cyl) = displacement
pi * (8.65cm / 2)^2 * (9.4cm) * (4 cyl) = 2.209L

Now let's see what rod length and piston compression height you'll need.
4G64 deck height, meaning from center of crank main journal to top of block is = 235mm.

We'll use the Eagle 94mm Crank and Manley 156mm Rods for this exercise.
So, deck height - (1/2 stroke) - (rod length) = (comp height)
235 - (47mm) - (156) = 32mm compression height pistons. This will yield pistons with proper oil control ring support with no wrist pin interference.
This combo also yields a rod/stroke ratio is 1.66, which is pretty nice.

If I was to build a 2.2L Destroker, ^^^ would be the build.
Crank and Rods are OTC, and Magnus can get you pistons with the wrist pin moved up only 3mm...

There are other options for cranks.
K1 Technologies makes 88mm, 94mm, 97mm and 100mm cranks for the 7-bolt 4G63/4G64 blocks, you've just got to want to spend $1600 for a crank.

Crower also has custom rotating assemblies, but you have to put 50% of the total down up front, and you'll have to wait like 8 weeks for it.

Or, Magnus can get you any stroke crank that you want, any rods that you want, and any piston that you want, it's all about the Benjamin's...
