4g63 Problems

Hey guys! I got my car running but am encountering some problems. First I filled my coolant and bled the system with the heater on. My problem is when I left the cap off of the thermostat housing the water would fill up to the top. Then I would put the cap back on and go for a drive. Shortly after there would be smoke coming from the radiator. When I take off the cap there would be no visible coolant. What am I doing wrong here?

Next my car idle surges bad from 1000 RPM's to 1500 RPM's. Then when I drive it shutters around 2000-3000 RPM's I have a cruise log on the highway and streets that I will attach. I will also attach my settings that I am using in link. Please let me know if I have something thats making this happen. I also have 3 DTC's. What could make these DTC's show. I never had any CEL's before the turbo upgrade and before I used DSMLink my car ran perfectly fine. It was completely stock but now has a TD05H-20G, VRSF FMIC kit, 3 inch exhaust, LC-1, Stock BOV, Stock 1G MAF

0012 Volume air flow circuit malfunction

I just looked at the log and I am by no means an expert, but I looked at the end when you were idling...
-Your o2 doesn't seem to be cycling at idle??? It stays at a constant 0.08v (seems very low to me.)
-Other than that, I would try adjusting the BISS screw to try and eliminate the idle surge
Try the free stuff before buying a MAF sensor. Also do a boost leak test!!!
I have a spare MAF sensor laying around if you need one. However, it's for a 2g. I know in link there's a selection for a 2g maf but I'm not entirely sure how all that works. Shoot me a pm and we can work something out if you want it.

One thing unrelated to your problem...are you logging your wideband? You said you installed a LC-1 but you don't seem to be logging it. Did you replace the front o2 with the wideband?

Thanks a lot for all of the help!! I will look into the front o2.. Also I do have an LC-1 I have it set up to log in ECMLink but have not set it up inside the application. On my DB gauge during idle it stays around 9.0 then when I drive it stays around 10.0. I have stock injectors so I find it hard to be reading correctly. I did free air calibrated it. I guess ill have to try that again!
 
What is the likelyhood all three sensors in the maf died at once? Classic symptom of maf unplugged or bad connection.

Anything is possible check wiring, do you have codes? Have you fixed those problems, the codes?

I have 3 DTC codes in link these are what they are! As far as checking the CEL manually I haven't given that a try!

0012 Volume air flow circuit malfunction
0013 Intake air temperature circuit malfunction
0025 Barometric pressure circuit malfunction
 
I'm not sure MAF would cause o2 voltage to not cycle, but I could be wrong. Definitely check your connection on the sensor like pauleyman said.

Double check your wiring near the ecu if you just installed Link. It's possible that you knocked some loose if you said it worked fine before. I also found this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/404501-how-test-maf-connector-harness-side.html for testing to see if your harness has the proper voltage going to the sensor connector.

If all the voltages are in the proper range, then I would say your MAF sensor is dead.
 
O2 wont read until its hot. Takes even longer if its not an oem o2 with a heater.

It was at the end of a very long cruise, so I was assuming it was hot. And I believe the LC-1 has heater if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for clarifying that! It was about a 20 min drive! Highway and street... Ad the LC-1 does have a heater. I'm not running narrowband through the LC-1 though I'm running both front o2 and LC-1.
 
Trying to figure out why my front o2 sensor is not cycling. So after some research I found that the exhaust has a ground wire under the car. There is a lot of debate about this from being the o2 sensor ground to being way to eliminate radio static. Anyhow mine is not connected. So I'm gonna connect it to my exhaust and hopefully this solves my problem with the o2 sensor.

Heres another log of another cruise. My front o2 voltage actually made it up to .80v during this cruise and actually cycled once or twice. The car did not surge but stayed constant at 1500 RPM's at idle.

Well looking at that log, something is definitely still going on. Your MAF comp is at a constant 0hz and your intake temp is at a constant -74*. So I'm still thinking something in the wiring of MAF or the actual sensor. As for your o2, I have no idea what's happening. I've never seen it like that before. Your log was closed loop the entire time so it should have been cycling, not crazy all over the place like yours was. Did you check the voltages of the MAF plug? Or check wires by the ECU? Definitely check these because it seems to me like it would be one of the two if Link isn't logging them.

And can you post a log of an idle at running temperature? That may help to look at some things.

I haven't gotten a chance to check the maf harness...I will try to get it done soon! Also I can get a log with idle at normal operating temp! Thanks again for all the help!

Well guys! I just got done doing a boost leak test and wow I dont know how I missed this the first time! There was some type of paper covering the BISS screw. I pulled it out thinking it was just on top of the BISS screw. I shined some light down there and can you believe that there was no BISS screw at all! Thats just ridiculous!!! So Im guessing that along with a couple boost leaks are the source of the idle problem. So now I'm gonna purchase a new BISS screw, injector seals and try the BLT again. I also took off my MAF to inspect it and noticed that one of the male pins was bent. I fixed it and just connected it and started the car. I only got one DTC this time but I only idled it for about 2 minutes. The DTC I got was 0012 volume air flow circuit malfunction. Can you get this DTC by having the intake tube off of the car and just having the MAF plugged in not connected to the turbo? I ran out of time to put it all back together and just ran a small test and got the one DTC. During the log the front o2 was still pegged at .08v.
