420a worth modding?? 135k miles

i have a fully stock 97 eclipse RS with 135k miles on it. besides 2 tires, paint, and the check engine light will come on and off every other week. and i also think its burning but not sure yet. what i was REALLY wondering was if the engine is worth dumping my money into. i know that i wont get my money out of it but im 16 and need something to do when i get bored and something to spend money on. All i need to know is if its worth my time and money or will it just constantly break down, thanks

Just keep it as a D/D and do maintenance on it. Save up and buy a 4g63T DSM.

My first car was a 420a eclipse and i loved it. IMO it just not worth dumping the money into it. If i could go back in time i would have just done all the maintenance and kept it looking nice. Later you can step up to a 4g63t.

It is a good car to learn on. I guess you could say its easier to work on than a 4g63t.

Exactly. 420 Is an outstanding daily, although if yours is experiencing problems it would be simpler and more cost efficient to just keep it daily and save for a 4g63 (GST or GSX). the amount it would cost to upgrade to a 4g63 would be nearly the price as purchasing one with little to no problems. A good Craigslist search can sometimes bring our great deals! As well as the classifieds here on DSMTuners.

No problem, like these other guys are saying, id make sure all the maintenance is done on the 420a and keep it as a nice looking dd. Then pick up maybe a 1g gsx for a project street machine.

My first car was a 98 RS bone stock and I just made it look nice, threw and intake and exhaust on it and called it a day. Awesome DD that taught me how to drive a stick. They are great cars, just don't try and make them something they're not.

Was it fast? NOOOO! but it looked good and was a fun car. should have lowered it though cause it was a monster truck haha

yea, i want to put an intake and exhaust on mine cause it sounds like a pissed of bumble bee stock -__- id like to lower a little bit as well, after that ill be be fine with it. so just focus on the visual aspect?? tint the windows as well and maybe throw 2 10's in the back....

Honestly just mod it.. you already have the car, its just dumb to trade or sellit again when you already have it.. the 420a is just as capable of putting up numbers like the 4G63 but you just need time and precision. its fun i recommend doing it

Does no good when you can't put the power on the ground how do you do an awd swap with a 420a. I modded an 99 avenger 40k later it was still slow as shit and fwd looked good but for that money my dsm would be bada$$ you know. I got about 9k in this car with buying the car and its well at 300hp where my venge was in the low 200 range, The venge also was the 2.5 mitsu engine and every part was a small fortune. Then it was engine swap to a 3.0 eclipse gt motor blah blah blah you get my point.

i wasnt planning on re-selling the car, i was going to keep it and save up for a few months then buy another car all together to mess around and tune and still havemy 420 as my DD

DD it. I also started on a 97 GS. Nice little cars. Good on gas. And can look very nice with the right work. DD it and maintain. Save up for a 4g63. Defintely worth it!

I'm not going to kill it anymore...but I am sticking with my GS as a DD and trying to pick up a GSX down here, but there is no such thing still ing....I even stopped a guy with one and aruging with 5k later...still no dice....but yes, i would save and find one down the road....

I waited 8 months till i found mine. Just wait for what you really want and it will be worth the wait.
