How many miles is to much...to be modding a DSM

like weith1111 said do necessary maintance and take care of it. Also do a compression test and if your car is riding good go for it, start modding away :D

i did everything when i first brought my car. plugs, wires, filters, oils, fluids, and belts. then did a compression test 170's across the board. so i start modding and i was @ 114,000.

so if your done with the maintance,i would say go head and have fun building your dsm :thumb:

Just bought my GSX at 146k miles.. great compression and the car is in very good shape - I'm fixing all the little things that come with a 10 year old car (weatherstripping, clutch cylinders, etc) but I'm not thinking twice about modding a car with this many miles. It's better than voiding a warranty and paying higher insurance on a newer car under 20k miles. If the car checks out fine mechanically, don't hesitate to get a great car to mod.

Just to let whoever gave me negative rep for this post my information is in no way misleading.

If you're ignorant enough to think that your car will not break when you start modding it then you don't need to start modding PERIOD.

It doesn't matter whether you have 10 miles or 100,000 miles. When you start modifying cars they WILL break. NO MATTER WHAT! Prove me otherwise. The key, learn the vehicle before you do anything. Learn warning signs, learn proper behavior, and learn to troubleshoot.

Am I telling you to not modify? Of course not. I'm giving you facts. These cars have been out for a minimum of 6 years. Find me one that has never had a problem. To deny the fact that your car will not have any problems what-so-ever is absolutely ignorant. And I will almost bet that I'll be helping you fix problems in the future.

Rarely is my information misleading. And only when I have been told or shown wrong.

Concerning this thread. My information is correct. Negative? Depends on the interpretation.

Yo man, don't be scared away. I know plenty of peeps who don't have problems and got lots of mods. Just take care of your shit, know what your doing and monitor everything.

I never said they can't. I did say that they will break. They break, then you fix them. Nothing misleading about that. Pisses me off that people try and give negative rep points for information that they don't want to hear. Regardless of whether it's accurate or not.

Drift_SM-Am I telling you to not mod your car? Hell no. Modify to your wallet's content. But don't expect everything to be peaches and cream. And when things aren't peaches and cream, you ask we help. That's the whole reason for this site is it not? Just don't jump into modifying blindly.

I definitley agree with everyone here, if your up on your general maintenence and you do KNOW your car ie: warning signs etc.. then have fun modding it, until then, wait or else you could be kicking yourself in the long run

I'm 135,000 I feel bad when a friend of mine says that i put too much confidence in my car. "it's going to break your f*cking heart" he says. I get scared to drive the thing 150 miles to San Antonio. He hates DSM's though!! it will break but hopefully she takes care of me and gets me home. My Toyota Pick-up never left me on the road. She broke but still made it home. Mod Away, You know I'm doing it. Having lots of fun screwing with the SRT4's that think they own the streets. almost ran into the back of one of those slow asses. Everyone here thinks bright paint, big wing and front/rear body kits make the car!! oh well. i like beans more than rice :sneaky:
