420A died I need a shopping list

ok my engine 420A on my 1995 eclipse GS is going going gone. valve seats and blue smoke oh my!..

ok so heres what I need.

Someone with knowledge about these engines to make me a complete shopping list and best guess price on an engine rebuild kit.

I want to add turbo at later so from reading im looking for what 8:8:1 or 8:0:1 pistons? but what about .20 over or .40?

anyhow can someone help me with the shopping list and links to what ever good places to buy the parts.

any help would be appreciated.

was doing some more digging rebuild kit seems to run in the 1500$ range

JE pistons + rings $449
crower rods $600

what about bearings? valves, retainers, valve guides do I need all these too?


also I found. www.overbore.com they have pre-built long blocks in the 3K range with a 475$ core.


manually rebuild? or order a prebuilt and drop it in?

i found a JDM turbo motor, 210 hp for $1200 the site was naganojapan.com o belive why dont you look into that

he has the 420a,not the 4g63,totally different engines.personally,id rebuild it myself to learn,but its up to you really.thats what ive done.if you dont think you can do it or dont trust yourself,then buy one.id go with the 8.8:1 compression for 2 reasons.one so your not too slow untill you get turbo,and 2,less work for your turbo since you have a higher compression ratio.the machine shop will tell you if you need standard,20 over,or 40 over.so dont buy pistons or bearings untill you get things measured.

ok so lets say I rebuild it myself.


I got my haynes and it look easy enough but as far as getting it balanced / bored. do I take the head to machine shop and have them bore it .20 over or .40 over or do they have to look at it to tell?


so then they bored it out, i put the pistons and rings and arms in. I take it back to them for balancing?

what should machine shop costs be on average? Since I have it out and its DOA should I go ahead and get an oil pump water pump and timing belt?

what about the lifters, retainers, valves, crank shaft, bearings etc..? when I looked at crank bearings they have them .20 over and .30 over do I have to take the small block in also so that they can bore out the bearing seat?

Im happy to do it myself I just not 100% sure of the process to do it right.

theyll bore the block if needed.you really dont have to balance it,unless they cut the crank or the rods to put em back in spec.it all depends on the condition of the parts.my 4g63 build went good,i didnt have to get the block bored or get the crank ground down.pistons can be an overbore,so can the rod and main bearings.you can disassemble is all to clean it up real good since its down now.you can get pumps and a t-belt now though for sure.you can measure the block yourself if youd like.do just like the book says.its not really hard,just time consuming.
