nice sounds beast any problems with cops .....im going with obx cam gears 272 272s thay have a gr8t idle and not so much a muscel car effect not that the crowers sound bad but i like low deep idle and i went turbo so it will be good for my motor plus im the kind of guy that likes the sleeper effect also...sounds really beast tho keep up the good work

yes i dident know eaither intill i found them on ebay and saw a youtube video of some kidd that installed them on his turbod 420a eclipse sounds good when i get the link ill post it...

well this is what i went back with

Crane TURBO GRIND #431-0014 Camshaft Set JUST IN CASE I DECIDE TO GO TURBO LATER BUT I CAN STILL USE IT AS A EVERY DAY DRIVER

Fidanza Adjustable Cam Gears TO ADJUST THE EXHAUST SIDE A LITTLE SINCE I AM NOT TURBO JUST YET

AND IF YOU WONT TO GO BIG YOU CAN ADD THE FOLLOWING. I DID AND I LIKE THE SET UP IT RUNS GOOD AND THEN RUNS GREAT WHEN I STOMP ON IT
I ADD A PICK OF IT

PEP stainless steel valves

Crane Valve Springs and Titanium Retainers

SBI PT Cruiser Style Rocker Arms

SBI PT Cruiser Style Lifters

BUT IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WONT. THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT CAMS OUT THERE. AND ONCE YOU ADD THE CAMS IT JUST MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND ON SELLING YOUR 420A. ALSO I HEAR GOOD FEEDBACK ON THE OBX CAMS SO FAR. THAY ARE A LITTLE BIT CHEAPER THAN CRANE. WITCH WORKS IF YOU ARE ON A BUDGET:thumb:

i love my set up. it really runs good it has a very mild lope. and still gets good gas mileage. you can get the hole kit including you choice of cams and timeing gears all in one kit from modernperformance.com it was high but so worth it. i ordered a new oem head from Mitsubishi had it ported and polished the motor has close to 15k on it now and still runs great

How much did the new head from mitsubishi run you?

that aint to bad, but why did ya want a new head, isntead of just reparing a used one? would have been cheaper, and would work just as fine sense you arnt building for boost

the previous owner was a young girl and she ran the car out of oil. and spun a bearing then the connecting rod broke piston came up and cracked the bottom of the head so really hadno choice but to buy a new one

meant repairing a used one as in buying a used one first, then getting that resurfaced and ported.

One more thing about those cams guys. If you choose to go turbo, these cams are not a waste of money. They are the cam I would choose to use on a turbo set-up (as a matter of fact I did, LOL).

You would choose these over the turbo grind?

If you want to go non turbo 420A, get Crower 2s, as mentioned.

This may change your decision about wanting to go turbo, when I fired her up and heard this, it was all worth it.

sick video mann :hellyeah: quick question how much did it cost for the cam install or did u do it yourself and does your car run better with the egr block off?

I know you said you would ROFL, I was wondering why? I've been looking to get some and I would like to know the reasoning behind your choice? So if you could help me out I would appreciate it. :thumb:

Thanks. I did it myself, cams were used, about $200, bought a timing kit plus upper gasket set, another $200. Had tools and garage to do it in myself, so spent at the most maybe $450 for the complete install.

As for the EGR blockoff, Im not sure if it runs better, but it will keep your IM cleaner. And it was neccesary for me, because of the cams duration the EGR tube was taking in pretty much straight fire, making the tube get hot enough to smoke, burn paint off it, and melt insulation on wires 4 inches away...OMG. So the whole EGR blockoff kit was just to get rid of that nonsence. I will probably have to modify it to work for when it gets inspected.

While any turbo will make better HP numbers not any turbo will make quicker times, bullets NA is faster than a lott of turbos :p. Although it is true the fastest turbos will always be faster than the fastest NA's.

I think for everyone not goin turbo they have their reasons, I know for me personally I have a lot of reasons. Now just to be clear I am not saying or arguing that NA is better, just stating why I choose to go that route.

1) Turbo lag- I cant stand it, I've driven my friends subaru with a TMIC, and just hated the turbo lag, when he is driving I can't even feel it, but when i put my foot down, it makes me want to cringe, I love the instant power I get out of a NA

2) Sleeper- No one ever expects a fast NA, wether they be DSMer's honduh's or w/e, the sleeper aspect is great for leaving mouths open

3)Underdog- I just always love cheering for the underdog, one of the reasons i rooted for the giants of pats in the superbowl, I just like making things harder on myself i guess, because the payoff is always better

4) Challange- about anyone can slap on a turbo and go 200+ HP, but it takes much hard work and effort to get that in a NA.

5) Reliability/first time tuner- This is my first tuner car, and i figured I'd start with a NA to learn about cars, and not risk blowing my engine with a first time tuner messing with boost and etc. Also it's my daily driver, so another reason I needed that reliability, and I just dont feel it would be as reliable with a turbo (not saying 420T's arnt reliable, just feel NA is more reliable, less moving parts to go wrong)

Hope this shreds some light on why some of us went NA builds, and I am sure others have other reasons, but more importantly I hope I convinced some people to stay NA:hellyeah:

Hmmmm, lets see here:
1) it was a subaru! LOL If I took you for a ride in my evo, you would think it was N/A minus the now 400AWHP issue that it has!

2)Kep your GS badge on the back of your eclipse and let everyone think you still have a n/a...I had that for a while until my last body shop took it off and I just rolled with it. I did surprise a few turbo eclipses when they thought they were gonna hav a nice lunch!

3)You can still think your the underdog...

4)No, it actually takes a lot of hard work to design yourself a well rounded turbo system for your car. Your right anyone can slap a turbo on their car and you know what they get..a laggy turboed car that might have 200 hp. you know what we call them over here.. a hondaLOL

5)Keep your boost low ie 5-8 psi on a standard t3/t04 50 tim or a nice spooling evo 8 turbo (16g). has great spool up. be sure you do your reserch ahead of time and ask questions to those who can and want to help out. Start slow and you will get addicted to boost the first time you hear your own car spooling a turbo and blowwing off!

Good luck

by the way, I'm just got crane 0014 cams and crane valvesprings I will be putting into my eclipse this next week. I will be retuning accordingly with my ms.

Oh yeah, EGR blockoff FTW!

So you think I'll be okay? I don't know about ct emissions but californias are really strict. Another question: I know you can run cams without upgrading anything else but if I were to spend a bit more money what is the most important thing to go with the cams? Spring, retainers, valves, rocker arms? Thanks.

i ran cams on stock head and it was rough, and had some problems, as soon as we put on a spring and retainer set, it ran like a kitten, but that also might be my whacky car.

If you really want to take advantage of the cams, you'll get a bit of port work as well.
