Yeah, it's about time someone did this wouldn't you say? Well for the past two years I've been developing this site with what little free time I have, that allows for users to dismantle various performance engines and gain experience in a virtual environment, before attempting the job in the real world....sound enticing? I thought so!

I've always wanted something like this for myself ever since I was a little kid playing Gran Turismo on the original PlayStation. I've always been infatuated with how things work, especially engines...and once I started playing around with computers and graduated with a degree in computer programming, I decided it was time that someone create such an application and allow for enthusiasts such as myself to utilize it FREE OF CHARGE!!....yeah no joke....FREE....no strings attached!

Heard enough?...ready to check it out?...you may do so by following this link:

This is absolutely amazing! I can't wait for the 420a.

This tool has so much potential! If you actively continue with this, it will go very far.

Thank you all for the support! Being a dsm guy, the 4g63 is the next engine that will be up and going on the site. I did a small block chevy to start off with because alot of the parts were easier to model and I was still learning 3d modeling. But now that I'm proficient with the software I can pretty much tackle anything I'd need to.

I have the cylinder head of the 4g63 halfway done along with your various valvetrain and expect the entire engine to be complete around christmas, maybe a little later.

If you would like to show your support for the site please create a user account and check the boards from time to time. The more traffic the site gets, the more time I'll be able to invest! :hellyeah:

I started something like this a couple years ago as well. My enthusiasm for the project lasted about a month because it was such an enormous undertaking with the software I wanted to use. I am glad to see it coming to fruition though.

What software are you using, BTW?

Unigraphix/NX. On an educational license. Through a VPN. Measuring and modeling every detail of every component with a ruler and dial calipers.

It was going to end up being more of a hassle than what it was worth for me. I got through a piston/rod assembly and I think a starter before I realized I would one day have to do the engine block, transmission casing, head... everything. And it would all have to mate together.

I enjoy playing with CAD programs a lot, but I enjoy drinking beer and socializing a hell of a lot more.

THAT sir is the key element to this project, and I would keep it secret, but since all you'd have to do to find out anyway is research the plugin you have to install, I guess I'll go ahead and drop the ball LOL.

The program that was used is called Blender it is an opensource 3d rendering/game engine software. It's pretty advanced for what it is. Then to get around the issue of having to supply the source code for the project since it utilizes "blender player" (which is also opensource), I took advantage of a plugin called "Burster" which takes your opensource file and encrypts it using an advanced algorithm, creating a completely new file which you can license any which way you want....clever huh...LOL....

Is there any way others can contribute to the project?

If you would like to contribute to the site there is a "Parts Directory" which lists general descriptions of what different parts are and what could be done to upgrade the part, if applicable. Nothing vehicle specific, just with broad terminology, so that if written by say a Chevy guy, a DSM guy would grasp just as much as a Toyota guy or another Chevy guy would.

If you would like to contribute to the directory, you are given credit for your contributions on your profile page so that other users can see what parts you contributed information to!

Anything you can do to help get the word out there would also be greatly appreciated! Post links to the site in your form signatures. Like the page on facebook. Tell as many automotive people you know as possible. Old auto shop teachers, local mechanics, old ladies at the grocery store...Everyone! ROFL

As far as the modeling goes that looks like a one man show for right now. Everyone I've tried to get in on this and help takes a look at the Blender interface and says nevermind....which they have good reason to. It took me two years to get to the point I'm at right now with it, and if you ask me I'd say the models could be much better then they are... :/

Does it support any import options (IGES, parasolids, etc.)? There are modelers hiding all over the place that can work with the more common CAD programs and export the models.

Being open-source, it seems that someone would be developing some import functionality for Blender if it doesn't already exist.

These are the import options for blender:

This. Is. Amazing. Brilliant. Phenomenal. I don't even know how to describe it. Excellent work

Thank you for the kind words my friend! It defiantly helps the motivation to know that others are this interested in the site! :D

Does anyone know who I would need to get a hold of here at dsmtuners to talk about sponsorship once the 4g63 is done?

So, I had this idea to incorporate factory part numbers early on whenever I was creating this thing and since then the though evaded me but for one reason or another it snapped back into my head this morning. That would increase the traffic audience by quite a bit!

We've all been in the situation where we're putting something together and stopped and thought, "I wish I had a part number for that"! How awesome would it be to have a virtual 4g63 that had all of the factory Mitsubishi part numbers for everything that you could cross reference??? :hellyeah:

You could ask site founder ludachris about it.
