3D Interactive Engines!

I was wondering. Do you use the same program to make the 3D Models then import them to blender? Never heard of that program and it looks amazing. I've been screwing around with Solidworks 2012 and just seeing how it compared.

Just a 4g63 Piston head I made when I was bored in Matlab Class.

First off let me apologize for the delayed response. Work has been quite hectic lately...glad to see so many people taking an interest in this project though! :)

Any updates on the 4g63?
I'm stoked for the 4g63
The cylinder head is almost done, then once i model the cams I should have everything done to put the head together. Then I'll move onto the block.

As far as the interactive program goes...I could actually use some opinions on this situation...It has come to my attention that more people may use these programs if they don't first have to download the plugin? I've had a few people on some other forums complain saying that they wont use the site solely do to the fact they have to download a plugin :ohdamn:

Now...There is a way that I could code the applications so that a plugin isn't required (for any browser other than IE), and they would load as soon as you browse to the page...However it would take probably close to 6 months to go back and rework everything at this point...so I figure I'll ask some fellow dsm guys what they thing. Should I go back and re-work the applications, or stay on the current path???

Right now everything is done in blender. The modeling, animating, coding, etc. Blender can do quite a bit. Not to mention that it has it's own game engine already built in.

However if I choose to go back and re-work the current structure of the programs, I would then only be using blender for the modeling and not it's game engine.

I've used blender before but i suck at it really bad..
I was horrible whenever I started as well...blender's interface can be quite intimidating, but if you stick with it everything starts to make since after awhile.

I'm a huge Solidworks fan. It's the only software I could get to deal with contuors properly when CnC'ing.
Haven't used Solidworks myself...but my curiosity is getting the best of me. I might take a look and see what it has to offer :thumb:

Recently started working on this project again so I figured I'd give an update. Things have changed quite a bit in the information technology world since the original inception of the project. The original small block that I build required a third party plugin to be downloaded by the client before the program would run. This was a huge turn off for most people. When the project didn't gain traction I shelved it. Recently I have gotten back into 3d (more specifically browser integrated 3d programs) and thought you know what...I'm going to port that old small block so you don't have to download anything before it will render. So I did just that.

Depending on public thoughts and opinions I might move forward with this like originally planned. If I do the next engine to be completed will be the 4g63 (apologies for the prior blue balls). Anyway, let me know what you think: https://youtorque.com/engines/chevrolet_350_gen1

* Works best with a mouse, but also mobile compatible if your device can render 3d graphics

Also, the thought of making this an open source project has crossed my mind. I could build a database where people could model and upload parts of various engines and then put them all together. So for instance you might model a block, someone else might model a piston, and another person could model the crank. Could be a way to catapult things...because honestly the thing that takes the most time is creating the models. Now that the program is complete, it can pretty much be used for everything. Sorry...rambling...
