I know theres one under an 8 second DSM on this board.

i have 2 dsm and 2 3/s, ive seen alot of 1000hp+ 1000tq+ 3k with stock rears, but around that power leval the driver side rear shift wants to gave way, look up erics VR440, he has a 440ci big block with a super charger making 1200hp/1200tq ish on a stock vr4 rear end

I have a little info to share on this. I did speak to jeff bush awhile back about his swap and it's not an easy swap. There's lots of fab work and he used the vr4 axles and had them shortened. He did the work and said it was many many hrs of work. What I found was that to match gears right if you have a 5-spd Dsm use the rear diff out of a 5-spd vr4, if you have an auto Dsm then you need to use the 6-spd rear out of the vr4. I got the rear ratios off one of the 3G/vr4 forums.

What I know about this is that unless your goin low 9s it's not needed to go through the hastle. For those that fear rear end issues there's a fix that'll make the stock diff last longer. What happens is under extreme loads the diff caps flex and cause the ring gear to move away from the pinion and shred the teeth. Andrew over at frontline fabrication made a rear diff cover that has preload bolts to hold the caps solid. So far the cars that used to break rear ends are not having issues. I've discussed with Andrew the fact that maybe it's one of two things. First thing being weak hardware and second maybe the diff caps are flexing under the load. We also brought up maybe making some billet diff caps to see if that cures the problem.

As he said diff is not a bolt in at all. We did it so we would not get kicked out off a class we race in. Straight axle would kick us out. Othe then time it was cheaper then buying Dss rear axles.

If you are trying to copy a guys setup, why not just ask him?

We are lucky to deal with a bunch of guys that do shit, we couldn't afford or have time or maybe talent to do and they share with us. Not like they are keeping this shit top secret.

With that said just because someone else did it, doesn't mean you need to.

Message the guys if they help cool, if they don't well go down the long road they did.

Glad you chimed in. Now did you guys just use the stock Vr4 axles and have DSS shorten them? Same 4-bolt flange?

Anything more on this? Seems like there's some people on here who have good info, but aren't around to elaborate.
Is the general consensus that the beefier cover made by frontline would do instead of a swap to the 3/s unit? I'm very interested in the process of this swap and what has to be done. Does the 4 bolt axle from the dsm match the 3/s inner? What about the driveshaft bolt pattern?
