Hey guys,

I did a bit of road racing with my 1g lately and found out quick that my 2 piston DSM big brakes just arent up to the task. I am looking at doing an upgrade to either the 3000gt VR4 brakes, or the Cobra brakes. Just looking as to which brake set up will offer better performance. They both use the same size rotor so it will basically come down to pad design / clamping force.

Aren't the cobras 2 piston and VR4 is 4? Seems pretty simple to me???
 
I have the basic cobra big brake kit. I personally love it. It stops on a dime and will hold the car on any amount of brake boost. I just have standard $20 parts store rotors with a set of loaded calipers and standard pads. I believe there bendix pads. They do make a little noise sometimes at low speeds, I assume that its the caliper design as the pads are only held at one end of the caliper. All in all its one of the single best upgrades ive done. I do not have experience on a road course or scca type racing with them. Although I have did a few laps at a ride in drive with it and had no brake fade, but it wasnt a very high speed course.
 
Keep in mind that the VR4 calipers are huge, you'll also have to consider using different wheels if your offset doesnt let you install the calipers.
But, the VR4 do have 4-pistons compared to 2-piston PBR calipers that are the Cobra ones.
 
The 3kgt vr4 calipers are huge. They were designed to stop a 3800lb car. I have a full front and back set on my 2g and love them. If you go that route I would pick up some 1g 3kgt vr4 front calipers, 2g 3kgt vr4 rear calipers, make some small spacers for the rear calipers, buy a whole set of 2g rotors, and a bracket made or bought for the front calipers. Tuners nation used to sell the bracket but I don't think they are in business anymore. I have two sets of brackets though. I could get dimensions for you.

I don't have any experience with the cobra calipers but they are similar in design as the eclipse calipers.

Cobra are the same as 2 piston PBR? Cool, I installed PBR duals on my fronts. Thanks for the info :)!
