I'm trying to decide between buying a 1991 3000GT SL or a 1995 Eclipse GST. Wondering If anyone could send feedback to help me decide.
 
Me personally I would go with the GST becuase it would be a lot easier to work on and parts would be cheaper and also it would be faster.

That's only if you aren't talking about the TT VR4.

I'd take a GST over a SL anyday. The lighter, turbo GST can beat a heavy, slow SL anyday.
 
im 99% done selling my 3000gt. i have a decently modded 93 3000GT. I'm going to be buying a Spyder GST. However, I am POSITIVE that i will not get near the same amount of positive looks, thumbs ups, etc. I'm definetly going to miss that. But, almost without a doubt, a GST will be faster.

and YES the gst is faster than the ol' 3s... and YES the 3s is way hotter than my talon.. but who cares.. turbo is fun :thumb:

between those two [ speaking of one who's own both ] i'd opt for the 95 gst.. until you can afford that vr4 :thumb:
 
I am completely obsessed with the 2g dsm, but even saying that if it was between a 2g turbo and a 3000 gt Twin Turbo... i'd have to go with the 3000. oh yeah they'd both have to be stick too. but if the 3000 wasen't turbo i'd say FuK daT!
 
haha I raced a 3kgt coming back from the beach when I was stock with a trunk full of luggage and my girlfriend....he lost really bad. On a roll stock for stock the vr4 cant really hange with a gst/tsi, but in the quarter a vr4 is a little faster. But almost 4000 pounds AWD= no top end, twin turbo or not cant do much.

Dood stock 2Gs suck. You need atleast a uip, bov, intake, and exhaust to get things movin right. Sure you were completely stock? Maybe his car spun a bearing. LOL

Yeah, 14.0 @ 99 stock isn't much compared to a GST's 15.0 @ 91mph. *cough*

To the original post, if you want cheap speed, get the GST. If you want to turn chicks' heads and have higher repair bills, get the SL. The choice is yours.
 
Well it depends on what you are looking for.

If you want easy, cheap modifications and parts, go with the GST. I have owned an SL and currently own a FWD TSI and the TSI is way more fun to drive and gets better gas mileage.

If you want great looks with less modification potential go with the SL. Although they do have superchargers and single turbo kits out now. I think the fastest FWD SL is in the mid 11s now. :thumb: And actually an NA 3/S weighs right around 3200 +/- 100 lbs.


And the TTs don't have great topend....but it is mostly due to the 9b turbos. Any turbo upgrade should put out traps > 110 on pump gas....which ain't bad for 4k lbs and AWD. ;)
 
Hmmmm I said I raced a 3kgt not a vr4 3kgt, read my post before you come back with comments like that. Plus I ran a 14.9 to another guys 14.3 and I was at his bumper. Its not the HUGE difference you say. A nearly 4000 pound car with AWD drivetrain loss on the top end would be a pig.

What are yall thinkin??? :laugh: 1st gen vr4s w/ the 5spd top out at around 160 mph: The 2nd gen w/ the 6spd tops out 160-167 mph. These facts straight from 3si.org :thumb:
 
From a roll.....

What exactly is "top end?" A roll to me means anything about 5mph ;) A TT 3/S is gonna out accelerate a stock TSI to 100 easily. If you mean top end as in top speed....well it doesn't feel like the gears in my TSI would take me much past 140....

Just remember....in a top speed run weight doesn't really matter much, its all about torque, just look at the Supras. I can see you easily walking an NA pretty easily but stock vs stock a TT is outta reach for a TSI. Although, I have been beaten pretty badly by a 20G FWD on the highway!! Haha!. :thumb: But that is a different ball game...

Exactly, what the hell is the problem with wanting to go that fast? I guess us FWD guys that have done the speed limiter removal mod are euro trash too. Putz.
