I'm looking to upgrade my brakes and I know where a couple 3000gts are and I just wanted to know will the brakes bolt up? and if not what do I need to make it work. The 3000gt is the na version not the vr4.:banghead:

Just get the caliper AND the mounting bracket. Then buy 3000GT rotors and pads and you are set. I have them on my 1G. Huge difference

Is that with the na 2 piston calibers? Or will either work and will the front and rear work?

Thought the n/a 3000gt had the same front brakes as a 2g gsx. Correct me if I'm wrong

That was about to be my next question. Cause I think the na 3000 brakes will bolt right on and those are 2 pistons like the gsx, so if I upgraded brakes from a na 3k, would I basically be upgradeing to a gsx setup?

Yes the are basically a gsx brake swap just not from a gsx LOL and they do bolt right up.

If you got the VR4 setup, youd have to get the calipers and mounting brackets, then youd have to get custom adapter brackets and hoses, and if youre on 16" wheels, you may run into clearance issues. If you must have the VR4 setup, there is a complete setup for sale in the classifieds for 450.00 shipped, which is a steal!!

I run the VR4 setup in front and there are no "mounting brackets" needed except for the custom adapter brackets. Mounting the calipers requires just 2 items; the caliper and adapter bracket. Also, the brake line screws on like a 1g style so you also need to change the brake lines.
As for whether or not it will work with a 16" rim, I have less than 1/4" of clearance with my 17's so they will most definately not fit a 16" rim.

The adapter that RTM sells, is designed to be used with 3KGT VR4 4-pot calipers that have the 'Mitsubishi' engraved on them WITH Ford Cobra 13" rotors NOT VR4 rotors.

Alright thanks guys! Ill prob just upgrade to the two piston calibers cause I know where so na wrecked 3000gt are. So all I need to grab is the calipers? Or the mounting brackets? And one more question are the rear brakes on thew 3000 the same as mine?

Who said anything about using VR4 rotors? I only see mention of the calipers. I mean.. you are correct but you're correcting who exactly?

The front na 3000gt's two pots are a bolt on deal. They mount right up to the the knuckles on a 2g; no mounting brackets needed. The rear brakes are bolt-on as well. I have not actually done the 3000gt rears myself (went with Evo VIII Brembo rears) but as I understand it, the rear disk is vented and a little bit larger so you will need that as well. I just happend to take a pic last time I was at the Pic-n-Pull of the rears:
This is from a 3kgt VR4 but should be the same as an NA. From the 3si.org site "1st gen TT rear brakes are the same as all n/a rear brakes."

This is from a 3kgt VR4. Not sure if the na is the same or not.

THANK YOU... And what I was asking is the rear brakes on a na 3kgt a upgrade from what I got? And after I upgrade and I got to pads and rotors will both gsx and na 3kgt parts work?

Well, nowhere in your post did you mention using Cobra rotors either ;)
"I run the VR4 setup"...I took that as using the VR4 rotors.

I see your point:cool:
I just didn't want to get too far off track as I was just trying to address some misinformation on caliper mounting requirements for the 3kgt VR4 calipers from a previous poster. Rather than get into all that on this thread, here is a post with more detail on my cheap big brake setup if anyone is interested.

Alright thanks for the help and just one moree LOL are the lines all the same?

That I'm not 100% sure about... sorry. With the 4-pot VR4 calipers, it definately had different line fittings (screw in style) than my 2g GSX lines (banjo bolt) but I can't say for sure what the 2pot 3kgt lines are like. Maybe someone can respond that knows for sure. If you get no answers, here's what I would do (and have done before). Take one each of your calipers with you and verify they fit on the 3000gt and see if the lines will work. At my local yard I tell them I'm bringing in my parts to compare and test fit and they mark them with a paint pen before going in. Maybe yours will do the same.

There is a little discussion on this here though I'm still not sure if it's accurate:
Yes, they are the same, but the hydraulic line is different, where 2g's have banjo bolt fittings on the flexible lines, the 3/S non-turbo's have a threaded fitting like 1g brakes.

So I would talk to RRE ( http://www.roadraceengineering.com ) and see if they have some SS lines that will do what you need if you go with the 3/S brakes.

What you'll need:

2 Piston calipers
2 piston brake pads
Gsx rotors or 3000 n/a rotors

Brake lines should swap over fine, you could always get SS for performance tho and you'll have a good set of brakes.

Thanks guys for the help ill check it out, I think road race sells a line kit just for this swap but not positive
