3000 gt W/ AWD into a montero

So i have a 1997 montero i have this feeling that it might be possible to swap in a 3000 GT engine W/ the AWD trans with the slights amount of easy and fab i have taken a close look at both the V6 montero and the 3000GT motors and transmission and they are very much similar i want to get the most info as i can before i get to involved and come to find out its not possible without spending obscene amounts of money to make the swap possible and two sense is much appreciated. Thank you

Your on the wrong site!!

Visit www.3si.org and you will find lots of information about the 3000GT/Stealth motor and AWD system. I do know that the motors are more or less the same and should swap in and out. There has been lots of talk about doing it though I don't believe I've heard/seen anyone that has completed the task. The Montero comes with a 3.5L 6g74 motor while the 3/S's come with the 3.0L 6g72. Monteros came with their own AWD systems, so unless you were looking for the grand touring, long gearing 3/S transmission and drivetrain, you shouldn't need to 'fab' anything. Again though, check out 3SI, search around and you will find lots of info. http://www.stealth316.com is also a good place for 3/S information.

Nothing to it. You just need longer motor mount bolts, and the muffler bearings have to be re-aligned and finger-honed to seat properly.
