I am in the market for finally putting exhaust on my car. I'm goin to buy the Tsudo N1 muffler and have a local muffler shop bend me some piping. Is 3" too big for my N/T? I was going to go either 2.5" or 3", but I'm afraid that if I went too big with the piping that it would hurt the car or make it run like crap. I also don't want to go too small and have it sound like a weedeater either. What should I do?

do u plan on going turbo? If so ask yourself how soon, if its not very soon and u know your going turbo get 2.5", if it is going to be soon, buy the 3" and you'll be set when you are turbo.

If you don't plan on going turbo I'd still buy the 2.5" but thats just me.

I don't plan on turboing it because it's just too much money and I don't want to deal with the reliability issues. So 2.5" should be good enough and not cause it to sound like crap? Because I know the smaller the diameter of piping, the louder it will be. And like i said earlier, I don't want it to sound like a weedeater, or a Honduh :notgood:

Actually on a non-turbo car, turbo exhaust (3" exhaust) will sound the loudest. The smaller exhaust would actually be quieter. A friend of mine has the Magnaflow 2.25" cat-back and my car drowns out his completely....and I only have the 2.5 Tsudo...

Alright, I guess that answers my question. Thanks a lot guys. I put up some pictures whenever I get it put on.

The crapy sound comes from bad resinators and mufflers. If your going with the HKS, APexi N1, or Greddy EVO2/sp2, they are all quiet mufflers, but really come to life when you get on it. I dunno about the Tusdo because I haven't heard it. But 2.5" sounds good to be, but keep asking around. If your going the custom route, just make you get a resinator inbetween the cat and the muffler.

Can the exhaust shop supply this for me, or would I have to pick that up myself? And if so, where can I get one?

Well with those exahust, they come with the full cat-back and thus the exhust shop would only have to install it or you could do that yourself. But price range on those are a lilttle more expensive than having the shop make u custom piping, however you will be sacraficing the R&D of these companies that can make a queit yet efficient exhuast. Its up to you. But size I'd stick with 2.5" and if I were you and had money to do so go with a full cat-back system from a company.

Well, I don't really want to spend $500+ on an exhaust system from a factory. I was just going to pay the money for the muffler and have a shop bend up the piping and stuff.

Okay thats cool too, then you need to start asking around to see what mufflers will make it quiet and not as raspy. Talk to your muffler shop about that. They'll probably just slap a resinator between your cat and muffler.

how much is the shop going to charge for fabbing up the exhaust?

you can easily get a Tsudo 2.5" catback for cheap, and might come out to same price you'll be paying for your custom piping plus the muffler.

you can easily get it from a site like so:
http://eracingzone.com/95ecnontucae.html

or even from ebay, that's where I got mine :thumb:

I spent about $320 on my exhaust.

$240 for 3" tanabe racing medalian muffler
$40 for 2 3" Mandrel U bends
$40 for 6" of 3" Piping

Welded it all myself, cutting the angles I needed out of the U bends. I still want to get a resonator. Its too loud without the silencer in the muffler, and sounds like a Lazer Z Exmark Lawnmower with it in.... MagnaFlow 3" resonator should take care of that.

To the subject on hand. 3" on a NT sounds like crap... no matter how many resonators you put on it. 2 1/2 works great, but I'd do 2 3/4 if its not mandrel bent. Remember this, your exhaust only flows as good as the smallest/most restricting point of your exhaust.

I've got an appointment to get an estimate tomorrow at the muffler shop. They said that they could supply the resonator, so I'll find out what the cost is and I'll see if I can find out any cheaper prices. Thanks for the site XMasta19.

ive got 3" on my n/t.im going turbo of course, but i like the sound of it as is.its as straight as an awd exhaust system, just 2 45* bends is all it has.

3" on a non-turbo car will hurt the performance. it will kill back pressure. maybe not noticeable, but it will. stay 2.5".

thats true.but i noticed torque went down, but i gained noticable horsepower.engine does rev a lot easier now.

I just got back from the shop, and they said that it would be around $215 for the labor and install.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but the guy at the muffler shop said that for a resonator, he would use a glass pack. Is this a good idea, or will it make it sound bad?

bad idea. it will blow out over time, plus sounds like @$$. Put out a little more money and get a good one. MagnaFlow makes a really good resonator.
