Is the gst cat back exhaust system too big for my rs motor setup ? I do plan putting a turbo on it down the road but that is still at least a year away, and I have read somewhere that the gst exhaust system will bolt up...

If you are talking about a stock gst exhaust, then yes, you could can bolt it up now and it would not be a problem. The stock gst exhaust pipe diameter is the same size as the stock n/t exhaust. If it is aftermarket exhaust that has a 3" diameter then you will want to wait until you turbo your car to run that.

If it is the 3inch, throw it on! may be minimal gains now, but since you say you will be throwing a turbo on it in the near future than it is a good idear to do so now.

Back pressure is a myth... It used to be true on ancient technology v-8s with pushrods and crap. But just is not true anymore. I ran a 3" header back on a DOHC saturn with no noticeable loss in power. If anything there was a gain. It was spinning tires going into second even before the turbo.

so from what you guys are saying there is no downside to running a slightly larger piped exhaust, say a 2.5" straight piped exhaust for the 420a?

The stock GS-T exhaust system isn't too big, and it is a drop in replacement for your stock exhaust.

General opinion says the 420a does not run as well without back pressure, so we should stay with the stock size till you step up to turbo.
Huh? Who's opinion is that?

Well, if you live in the United States it's illegal, but otherwise there's no real downside. There's a point of diminishing returns (2.75" and 3" probably won't yield you any more power than 2.5"), but it won't really hurt anything, it'll just change the exhaust note.
