2G 2gNT Tapping into the ECU

Hey I am installing something on a friends n/t eclipse and I'm supposed to tap a wire into the ECU. I was wondering how exactly do I go about doing this? When I disconnect the harness I see a bunch of pins but how would I get a wire connected to one of them? And also should I disconnect the battery before doing this.

Absolutely always always pull the negative terminal when working with electrical, especially the ECU. How you "tap" into the ECU kind of depends on what you're installing - What is this top secret something, and what pin/sensor is it tapping into?

Okay gotcha, well the volt and vacuum gauges can come in handy diagnosing issues when/if they arise. TBH I'm not too familiar with the non turbo ECU anymore, but I'm assuming that's the front o2 input to the ECU - if so, the easiest method would be one of those "wire tap" connectors they have at local parts stores and home improvement stores. If you want a cleaner finish there's a way to remove the pins from the ECU connector; then you could solder the narrow band wire right in. There are articles/posts floating around that show how to remove pins on 2g turbo ECUs, I'd imagine non turbo should be similar at the least.

I read that it's pin #76 but that was for turbo 2g's, but it still seemed to work for the 420a as well. Could I splice the wire that goes to that connector and take it from there? I don't think a wire tap would fit, it's a really tight space.

If you're skilled with wire strippers, you could strip about a 1" section of the insulation and solder the narrow band's wire in. Just make sure you heat shrink it really well, or do a hell of a job with the electrical tape! Check vfaq, I think there's a pin out article for 2gnt's also just to make sure.

I'm great at splicing wires. I just checked on 2GNT and it turns out it's pin #30 with a black and white wire. I'll update when I get to it.
