I just bought a 97 Eclipse, the factory stereo was replaced with a pretty cheap kenwood AM/FM CD. They did get the harness converter (Thank God!) rather than cut and splice. The front speakers were not hooked up for some reason, I did that, but it sounds flat in the front, and I can't hear anything from the dash tweets. BTW, the rear sounds crystal clear.... Any suggestions welcome!! Thanks in advance!!

whenever you replace the head unit unless you hardwire the front dash speakers they dont work.. all you have to do though is pop up the speakers out of the dash and hardwire them to the front leads for you door speakers and I suggest putting bass blockers on them becuase youll blow them otherwise..

I really am glad that it is that simple! I was going to check that, but couldn't find a schematic...and the rest of the dash looked like real trouble to take apart to trace them. Again, thanks!

the factory front speakers for the infinity system are component speakers (crappy components, but components nonetheless) meaning the factory amp only puts midrange/midbass frequencies to the door speakers, and high frequencies to the dash speakers. keep that in mind when you do any upgrade to the audio system.. you will blow your dash speakers if you dont use bass blockers (i recommend 300hz or so) to keep deeper bass from hitting them, and frying them. the door speakers will sound flat, because there isnt any sort of tweeter on them to make any higher pitched sound.. i think its around 4khz where they cut off, but i dont have an RTA to test them. also, if you upgrade your door speakrs, and use the factory amp, and use the factory wiring, your door speakers wont be playing to their fullest, because they wont be getting high frequencies. the best way is to bypass that factory amp and run them straight off of the head unit, or use an aftermarket amplifier (like everyone should do LOL

those are speakers not tweeters you can put them anyways but i don't know how they'll sound though
i got mine on ebay(replacement tweeters) because i'm cheap but they perform really well and there were only 15 shipped

I got some inexpensive 1" pioneer dome tweeters (to go w/ my all alpine audio system) from www.millionbuy.com. I gutted the stock ones, left the grills on the stock ones and mounted my new ones inside and soldierd the stock wire harnesses onto the new tweets.

Umm, just found out this dashboard speakers are way smaller than 3.5 maybe 2.5 3 nobody makes that according to the guy at the local store.

I guess gutting the stock one is the way to go

The speaker size is 4T. Crutchfield carries like 2-3 name brand replacements for this size, because it's popular (talons, eclipses, avengers, sebrings). But the size speaker is not good for reproducing crisp highs, I'd get a 7/8" to 1-1/8" size tweeter. That position underneith the windshield has great acoustics for your highs.

you want awsome front speakers get som MB QUART Q series coponent set i got them with a soundstream reff 414 and its loud as shit and clear

The look like it but they are easy to get to. Just get a flathead stubby screwdriver and push it down the side of the speakers and pry it out, it should pop out pretty easily. Then just release the harness and it's out.

MB Quart Q's are awesome!

My tweeter sounds like poop....i need a new one...i checked ebay...is there anywhere i can get factory or stock tweeters besides factory...btw i didnt wanna change them to aftermarket ones...any advice? oh and to take them out...do u just pop off the covers with a screw driver or what?

ya pop out the whole speaker with a screw driver ... the covers are attached to the speaker.

You can make a small mounting braket for aftermarket tweeters and use the factory grill.

Take a flat tip and pop em out...theyll be the easiest speakers to take out. But replacing them with aftermarket...no such animal the stock tweeters in our cars are 3" and now aftermarket company makes that size. The stockers in good condition sound great but they cost about 70 a piece and thats through my discount at my work. The only thing would be to buy stock speakers or custom install some.

Its not hard at all to put aftermarket in there. All you need is a small piece of metal to hold them up as a bracket and put the factory grill covering over top. And really they arent tweeters, they are 3" speakers. Get a nice set of components, put the speakers in teh doors along w/ the crossover, and put your tweeters in the factory location of the 3" speakers. Aim the tweeters towards your windshield and bingo, youve got a times 10 sound of the IMO crap stock system.

I don't know audio. With the stone age crap I listen to that we thought was "music", trying to run it through a fabulous sound system would make about as much sense as... well, as hot-rodding a Honda.

However, I have been through quite a lot of the DSM sound system, with fresh mysteries being uncovered (and some solved) on a daily basis. I've put an Infinity system in the Talon, including the 10-CD changer and under-seat amp, but most of that was because the stock radio wouldn't let you see the clock behind the shifter. And, further proving I don't know audio, I think it sounds terrific. That the whole system cost me about forty bucks also adds to my enjoyment.

The factory amp takes the stock head unit's output for the speakers and runs it back to the head unit. From what I can guess at -there's shit-all information about factory stereos available, that I can find- the crossovers for the door and rear speakers must live in the head unit. Beats me, answers appreciated. However, the factory amp also sends output straight to the dash speakers.... kinda. When I popped mine out, thinking, "Shouldn't these be louder? Or, audible?", I found a black connector with two black wires hooked up to them, with factory plugs. And next to it are the wires whose color-coding match the schematics. But they have those tiny little connectors that Just Can't Be Found, and the speakers have ¼" spade terminals on them (pics to follow).

Before I found all this out, I'd ordered a set of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3077893987&category=14943

although instead of that price, I got these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14943&item=3077838044

while the shipping was still six bucks. They're "300W" (I'll bet) and (of course) Chinese. I cobbled together some connectors, and they sure do work.... maybe too well. There's instructions on the box for changing caps to alter the response, but it's all in Mexicish. Go figure. I'm going to try the factory speakers first. Next, the pics.

And, here's pretty much the deal on the Lexon tweeters. If I keep them in, I'll cut off some screws and glue the heads in to fill the holes. The seem to be plenty happy with just sitting in the mounting holes, no wander or buzzing problems.
